
Volunteer Ireland
Task
The Volunteer will meet with the young person each week for 1-2 hours. A staff member will work closely with the volunteer to match them with a little brother/sister based on shared hobbies/interests/personality traits. Together the volunteer and young person decide what they would like to do. Big Brother Big Sister is a mentoring programme, which matches an adult volunteer from the community with a young person aged between 10 -18 years, who need a bit of extra support. Volunteers are asked to spend a couple of hours a week with their little brother/sister. The initial commitment is for one year. Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister is a wonderful way opportunity to change a young person’s life in a simple, yet powerful way. WE ARE PARTICULARLY IN NEED OF MALE VOLUNTEERS AS WE HAVE MANY LITTLE BROTHERS WAITING TO BE MATCHED. Under Covid 19 restrictions we are still operating and still recruiting volunteers. At the moment volunteers and young people that are matched up can’t meet in person but are staying in contact by having weekly video calls/phone calls.

What’s Required
We look for volunteers who can act as positive role models for young people, sharing with them their own skills and life experience. It’s great fun, you’ll do things you haven’t done in years! It is an opportunity to develop a friendship with a young person, share common interests and try new things.
