Volunteer GP Role

Profile Role Title: Volunteer GP

Reporting to: Services Team Supervisors

Where will you be based: GPs can choose between offering remote consultations (from home) or coming in person to our Stratford, East London Clinic

Commitment requirements: one shift per month for six months

Our clinical volunteers provide first line medical care for our service users both over the phone and in the clinic setting. They also act as advocates and liaise with NHS service providers to link service users to the healthcare they need.

What you will be doing

• Providing first line medical care to patients in our CQC registered clinic. • Providing diagnosis and treatment as appropriate, including prescribing as required. • Summarising consultation notes into letters for patients and NHS professionals. • Advocating on behalf of patients to fellow medical professionals in the NHS. • Providing information on other appropriate services. • Promoting healthy living

Skills and requirements

• Fully qualified GP with full GMC registration and license to practice. • Current or recent clinical experience. • Medical Indemnity Insurance which covers volunteering for Doctors of the World in a clinical capacity. • The desire to help people excluded from healthcare. • Able to provide evidence of up-to-date training in Basic Life Support; Adult Safeguarding Level 3; Children and Young People Safeguarding Level 3. • Available to do at least one shift a month for six months. • Fluency in English. • Good social and communication skills. • Non-judgmental attitude towards people from diverse backgrounds. • Fluency in other languages and confidence working with interpreting services is desirable but not essential. In your application, please specify if you would prefer to volunteer in our clinic, remotely, or both. Please note, the Doctors of the World Clinic is currently open 3 days per week, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Our Women and Children’s clinic runs on Tuesdays, where only female staff and volunteers are permitted in the clinic.

The HR onboarding and induction process may take several weeks. Please take this into account when applying, to make sure that our minimum commitment request matches your availability. All volunteers must be based in the UK. Applications without CV/cover letter will not be considered.
