Volunteer GP and Nurses (Clinicians)

Doctors of the World UK

Doctors of the World UK is part of the global Médecins du Monde network, which delivers over 400 projects in more than 80 countries through 3,000 volunteers.

During the COVID-19 crisis, we had to make the difficult decision to temporarily suspend our drop-in clinic service. However, we have continued to support people through the advice line and remote GP consultations.

We have now reopened our clinic 3 days per week – Tuesday (Women & Children Clinic Day), Wednesday and Thursday- incorporating remote support in the services that we offer.

Our services are staffed by volunteer support workers, caseworkers, nurses, and GPs. These volunteers provide a highly empathetic and practical service to our service users, making a real difference to people’s lives.

We are looking for a Volunteer Nurses and GPs to join our clinic team, located in east London. Given the current Covid-19 context, we are particularly looking for clinicians who will be able to travel to the clinic easily (there is no parking, but good access to public transport. We also have bike racks outside the clinic).

We are also looking to build a small team of non-London based (but UK based) Volunteer Nurses and GPs, to be able to provide remote consultations, in order to expand the reach of DOTW clinical consults to those service users who live outside of London or are unable to reach our Clinic.

Remote consultations can be carried out from home, no travel to the London clinic will be necessary. If you are interested in joining our ‘ Remote Consulting Clinicians’ team’ please ensure it is clearly stated in your application

If you are passionate about access to healthcare and enjoy working in a team on often complex and challenging cases, then you should consider becoming a Doctors of the World volunteer!

Those with lived experience of migration, the asylum system, homelessness or exclusion from health services are encouraged to apply.

Commitment required: (minimum) 1 shift a month for a minimum of 6 months.

How to apply

To apply, please review the attached role description and use the application link below to submit your CV, Cover Letter and a completed additional information form. Please clearly indicate whether you are a Nurse or GP and if you are interested in joining our ‘Clinic’ or ‘ Remote Consulting Clinicians’ team’.

Applications without a CV AND Cover Letter will not be considered.

Please note, due to limited capacity, only 15 clinicians will be shortlisted for this round of recruitment. If you have been contacted and not been shortlisted on this occasion, please note that we are oversubscribed with applicants, so not being selected will normally reflect our capacity rather than a candidate’s ability.
