Europe Cares is a young and growing humanitarian organization supporting people on the move and standing up for human rights at the European external borders.

On Lesvos, we operate the community center Paréa Lesvos located within walking distance from the CCAC (or Mavrovouni refugee camp). The center offers a safe space where residents of the camp, locals, and international people can meet freely to spend time in a peaceful environment with many recreational activities and sports, a Women Space, a cafeteria with free drinks and daily lunch. Our center hosts another 9 partner organizations offering a wide range of services to our visitors including MHPSS, legal support, NFI distributions, informal education and integration support.

Position Summary

Our Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for our volunteer team, a combination of approximately 20 volunteers, both visiting and from the community. You will be in charge of the volunteers’ recruitment and onboarding, as well as their daily support and mentoring. In close collaboration with the Project Coordinator, you will take care of team meetings and team building events.

The full-time role is based in Lesvos, Greece. The (ideal) starting date is February 19th 2024.

Your daily tasks may involve:

  • Identifying the volunteer needs & advertising open volunteering positions on the relevant channels;
  • Processing the application forms of potential volunteers;
  • Interviewing potential volunteers & gathering the necessary documents for their onboarding;
  • Training the incoming volunteers during their first week of assignment;
  • Supervising the volunteers performance and ensuring their compliance with the safeguarding policy and Code of Conduct;
  • Supporting the volunteers and mentoring them with individual check-in chats and group sharing sessions;
  • Supporting the volunteers in case of emergency;
  • Organizing team building events;
  • Organizing training sessions for the team with other partner organizations, in collaboration with the Field Coordinator;
  • Supporting the communications team with Social Media;
  • Support the overall staff team with security-related tasks;
  • Other relevant tasks as requested by the Field Coordinator.

What we are looking for:

  • At least 21 years old;
  • Eligible to reside and work in the EU (as a small NGO we are not able to offer assistance for visa applications);
  • Able to commit for (at least) 6 months;
  • Able to provide a Criminal Record Check;
  • (Under-)graduate degree in a relevant field of study;
  • 1 year minimum experience from humanitarian organizations, and project or volunteer management in particular;
  • 6-month minimum experience with people management;
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organizational & time management skills;
  • Ability to work in high-paced environment and under pressure;
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative;
  • Fluent in English. Greek and other context relevant languages (i.e. Farsi/Arabic/Amharic/Somali) are an advantage;
  • High degree of integrity and strict compliance to Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policy;
  • Commitment to the values and mission of Europe Cares;
  • An experienced driver with an international drivers license;
  • (Ideally) experience in communications and SM management.
