We are currently seeking a motivated individual for the position of Volunteer Coordinator to coordinate work amongst volunteers in line with capacity and requirements at the location of Lesvos.

Tasks

  • Provide information regarding practicalities to new volunteers prior to their arrival
  • Induction, training, mentoring and development of all on-site volunteers
  • Ensure a sufficient number of field workers at the location
    • Recruitment of resident volunteers on site
    • Manage and update database (volunteer management system) of present volunteers
  • Manage and coordinate volunteer work and inform volunteers of tasks to be completed. Coordinate with Project Coordinator and HR volunteer recruitment.
  • Responsible for projects/activities at the location may be relevant. In such cases:
    • Qualitative and quantitative data collection from each project in order to implement, ensure and follow-up on relevant M&E plans
  • Any other relevant tasks as requested by Site Coordinator and Head of Operations

Qualifications

  • University degree in Business Management, Human Resources, Social Work or a related field and/or
  • 6 months minimum Experience from humanitarian organisations, field work (refugee camps) and volunteer management in particular
  • Leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Service minded and ability to work in multicultural settings
  • Fluent in English; Greek and other context relevant languages (i.e. Farsi/Arabic/Pashto/Dari) are an advantage

The Volunteer Coordinator will work full-time in Mytilene-Greece.

All Coordinators with A Drop in the Ocean are travelling on their own responsibility, and must be able to contribute for at least 3 months. The successful candidate will be hired on a Greek contract for six months with the possibility of extension. Greek residency is preferable to be hired on a Greek contract. Non-EU candidates can apply provided they have all the required documents to work in Greece. DiH does not support hired coordinators with Visa applications. Greek country requirements must be handled by the candidate prior to his/her arrival on site.

A valid driver’s license (Greek/European, valid no less than 2 years) is necessary to be considered as a Coordinator. All field workers of the organisation must be above the age of 25 and have to provide with a valid police certificate. Insurance including travel and health is mandatory for all field workers

If you have the right qualifications and are interested in being considered as our Volunteer Coordinator in Greece, you should be able to start the assignment ASAP. If you live outside of Greece, you have to follow your country´s travel-advise, and take this into consideration before applying (for Visa issues, the successful candidate should contact in advance the Greek Embassy of their country).
