All of our locations are 100% bouldering and often offer other programming such as yoga, cycle, weightlifting and training spaces. VITAL gyms are open to members 24/7. We’re open to the public during the day, but only members can unlock the door at night to use the facility without staff running the show. The sense of trust and ownership this inspires is part of what makes the VITAL community so exceptional.

ABOUT THE JOB
The Head Coach (HC) is responsible for creating and managing all climbing programs at VITAL West Harlem and Upper East. This includes but is not limited to youth teams, summer camps, private training, and climbing clinics. The HC will work directly with the General Manager to help create a rich offering of incredible programs. They will work closely with all other coaches and instructors to provide feedback and ensure quality offerings.
The Head Coach will focus primarily on growing, running, and overseeing all elements of the VITAL Manhattan climbing teams. The HC should be passionate about building a creative, challenging, and fun climbing teams program that will appeal to current and potential members. The climbing teams program includes but is not limited to youth competitive and recreational teams. The curriculum should focus on fun, learning, and growth.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Create an outstanding range of program offerings, including youth teams, summer camps, adult teams, clinics, etc.
Create engaging and diverse curriculum suitable for all skill levels
Work closely with General Manager to plan and execute new offerings
Hire and Train a team of qualified coaches and instructors
Develop and maintain professional relationships with members
Research and develop new climbing curriculum and techniques
Ensure teams and parents are kept in the loop about program changes and things happening around the gym.
Meet with the General Manager often to go over current progress and future goals
Establish and maintain a positive, high functioning, and supportive culture
Ensure the safety of athletes and coaches
Oversee coach and instructor scheduling
Keep informed on current and new USAC policies
Keep informed on current and new training techniques
Develop and maintain a professional relationship with all team parents
Maintain all administrative needs related to the climbing teams
Complete performance reviews for coaches
Ensure all coaches are up to date on announcements, changes, and gym happenings
Meet regularly with coaches to go over current progress and future goals
Organize trips to competitions, other gyms, and outdoor climbing areas

QUALIFICATIONS
Administrative and computer skills necessary
Mindbody Online experience a plus!
The ability to communicate clearly and efficiently with management and staff
Knowledge of the climbing industry
Experienced climber with at least one year climbing coach experience
YES (Youth Exercise Specialist) certification preferred
Safesport, USAC, and CPR/First Aid Certified
Ability to engage with parents and youth in a positive, encouraging and uplifting way
Great coaching skills!
