DESCRIPTION

Summary

The Vice President, Global Programs is an Executive Level position responsible for inspiring leadership of VillageReach’s programmatic strategy, quality, and execution. Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President leads a team of country directors and senior technical leaders responsible for developing and executing high quality programming to transform health care delivery to reach the most under-reached communities, in support of the organization’s strategic goals. This position works closely with the VP, Global Operations and the VP, Partnerships & Impact to drive strategic focus, impact, business acumen, excellence, collaboration, and health and wellbeing across teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time.

Program Strategy & Leadership (35%)

  • Provide effective and inspiring leadership for VillageReach programs, developing a broad and deep knowledge of programmatic work and impact and helping us meet our strategic objectives of doubling our reach, significantly increasing our impact, and increasing the scope and scale of our collaborations over the next 3 years.
  • Monitor current industry trends and anticipate their impact on the organization’s direction, impact, growth and programmatic development. Drive change management across program teams in response.
  • Oversee VillageReach solutions, including identifying technical capabilities needed, ensuring adequate resources, and assessing overall impact of solutions. Champion continuous quality improvement to strengthen solution execution, growth, quality and impact.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and excellence in the execution of VillageReach programs, in support of our strategy and theory of change, and in compliance with all organizational policies and practices. Ensure that VillageReach works in all countries with sufficient strategic and operational support.
  • Provide strategic oversight and development of new opportunities and new programs. Ensure appropriate strategic leadership to major programmatic initiatives, especially during planning, start-up and early investment phases.
  • Provide programmatic leadership and input for all strategic planning processes with the President and staff. Guide executive and board decision-making towards achieving our organizational goals and strategies.

Team and Talent Management (25%)

  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain a high performing team of country directors and other senior directors under VP, Global Programs portfolio.
  • Develop strategic country leadership, representation and operations required to deliver on organizational Goals & Strategies
  • Collaborate with People Team to build best-in-class talent management for programmatic staff development, training, mentoring, and performance assessment.
  • Clarify responsibilities, deliverables, milestones, limits for decision-making and interests of the program’s donors, beneficiaries and VillageReach management.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Financial Management (10%)

In collaboration with the Finance and Operations Group:

  • Drive investment mindset across the organization, understanding the relationship between community impact, business need, and organizational financial model to develop and execute revenue growth models.
  • Stay informed of country/program funding status and ensure close monitoring of program revenue and expenditures takes place throughout the fiscal year.
  • Ensure the continued financial viability of VillageReach’s program/service units through sound fiscal management.

Strategic Organizational Representation & Business Development (30%)

  • Promote the organizational mission and goals through personal commitment and modeling of organizational values.
  • Partner with the President and VP, Partnerships & Impact build and manage VillageReach relationships with strategic partners, donors and external constituency groups including community, governmental, and private organizations.
  • Participate in working groups or collaboratives that drive and support VillageReach priorities and enhance VillageReach’s networks. Represent VillageReach to the media and through speaking engagements.
  • Interface with national governments and relevant agencies as requested by Country Directors or Program Leads to ensure mutual understanding of programs.
  • Act as an Officer of the corporation, working with the President, Vice Presidents, and the Board of Directors to ensure the Directors have the information needed to govern and manage the affairs of the organization. Act on behalf of the President when requested.

REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position directly supervises up to 6 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; monitoring performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education & Experience:

  • Advanced degree in relevant field (MBA, MPH, MPA, or other related disciplines)
  • 15+ years’ experience in management and program implementation, with a focus on global health, global development, or a related field. Relevant experience in the private sector considered if candidate displays adequate understanding of the health and development sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and thought leadership in one of more of VillageReach’s core areas of expertise – Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Digital Health Technologies, and Human Resources for Health.
  • Strong relationship builder and communicator with experience leading diverse work teams, developing an organization-wide strategy for program excellence, engaging community partners, and partnering with a CEO and board of directors. Experience leading and being responsible for program and operations in a country or regional office preferred.
  • Ability to foster a creative, professional, and open management culture that empowers staff to fulfill their potential and encourages innovative thinking. Excellent capacity building, team building/management, and coordination skills and a comfort in a matrixed and global environment. An ability to delegate responsibilities effectively and coach and mentor staff.
  • Experience working globally with a variety of stakeholders, including local government ministries, funding agencies, other NGOs and the private sector. Combination of public and private sector experience preferred.
  • Proven success having securing resources for critical initiatives, and identifying and cultivating business relationships and partnerships leading to additional income sources and business opportunities.
  • Must be able and willing to travel internationally as required to support job duties (estimated at 30% travel).
  • Willingness to relocate to VillageReach’s Africa Hub (once open) or to work in co-working or home office environment.
  • Established cultural competency in partnering with racial, cultural and linguistically diverse groups.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, often ambiguous environment.

  • Fluency in English essential; fluency in French or Portuguese highly desired.

Environment and Physical Demands:

VillageReach has no private offices, employees work in a shared, open environment with task and conference rooms accessible to employees for privacy and meetings. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Due to the time zone differences between our USA office and our Country Offices and location of other global staff, US based staff are expected to be available for early morning meetings starting at 6am. In addition, our Regional Africa based staff and Country office staff are expected to be available for late afternoon/evening meetings up to 6pm.

Compensation:

VillageReach has an established compensation structure that is based on the relevant market and internally transparent. The range for this position is $132,600 Minimum in approved range to 165,800 Midpoint in approved range. We hire people into the established range based on one’s experience and education and considering internal equity. We do not inquire about salary history.
