Overview

GNDR is looking for an energetic, motivated and diligent individual with exceptional writing and communication skills to work alongside our project management team on the VFL 2019 project. The global project department through the VFL 2019 project seeks to engage an individual on a short term internship opportunity to support the compilation of articles or write ups on project implementation success/change, collaboration efforts and advocacy interventions.

Main purpose of the role

The VFL 2019 project is in its final phase of completion therefore capturing and documenting lessons learned, promising practices and project improvements is critical. This initiative is set to promote sharing of evidence-based practices that will stimulate learning and transfer of knowledge among the members and implementing organisations in different regions. This will also demonstrate the value and impact of the project activities implemented at community and national level.

The documentation produced will be shared with GNDR members, donors, development partners and the public.

Overall scope of the role

The key objective of the assignment is to document and catalogue success stories or significant lessons learned that have resulted from the implementation of the project. This assignment will also highlight and share promising practices that can be replicated or scaled up in other countries or future projects.

Specific duties include but not be limited to:

  • Under the supervision of the VFL project coordinator, prepare tools and formats that will be used for documenting the stories and promising practices
  • Preparation of write-ups on success stories or practices through analysing narratives or presenting relevant information that highlight the project work done.
  • Support the development of content and write ups for the VFL country pages.
  • Assist with review, quality checks and follow up of the submitted deliverables.
  • Present weekly progress reports to the VFL project coordinator.
  • Provide any other project management related task upon request from the project team that relates to organisation or management of project documentation.

Deliverables and expected output

  • Forty five (45) stories of impact developed and uploaded on GNDR website and other GNDR platforms as required.
  • Write ups and stories for the VFL country pages published on GNDR website.
  • Preparation of a brief article to capture key advocacy interventions/success stories in selected countries.
  • A short VFL 2019 project documentary or article posted on the community platform.

Candidate requirements

We are ideally looking for candidates that have the following attributes and skills:

  • Completed or currently pursuing a university degree in the communication, journalism, social sciences or disaster management, with a minor in communication, journalism or any other relevant field of study
  • An ongoing student then you must be in your final year, second last year or undertaking your practicum or internship. You must be on break and available throughout the assignment period
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and write in English
  • Knowledge of essential computer packages i.e word, excel, power-point.
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to analyse and synthesise relevant information and develop highly analytical write ups or articles
  • Relevant experience writing reports, articles, blogs, success stories or development of digital content materials will be an added advantage
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a multicultural environment and respect for diversity
  • A strong work ethic with the ability to manage workload independently.
  • Must be available for the full period of the internship program (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).
