Title: Web Developer  

Terms of employment: Full-time, exempt

Reports to: Jack Norris, Executive Director

Collaborates with: Aaron Surrain, Web Development Consultant 

Location: Remote anywhere in the world, with a preference for the United States

Compensation and Benefits: 80,000 USD per year, plus health insurance, medical reimbursement, retirement benefits for U.S. employees, flexible working hours, and paid sabbaticals after 3 years of work for all staff members.

* candidates outside the U.S. will be classified as independent contractors, and the pay rate will be adjusted according to the local cost of living. We will share international pay rates early in the process. We may consider a higher pay rate for exceptional candidates with more experience.

Responsibilities:

Develop and enhance Vegan Outreach’s websites and signup forms for mobile and desktop devices
Maintain and improve existing web-oriented projects regarding functionality, accessibility, and user experience
Improve the website UI and its performance
Maintain and improve code integrity, organization, consistency, and performance
Assist with automating certain tasks
Serve as the point person for troubleshooting issues with websites and web forms

Position Requirements:

2+ years of experience in the WordPress ecosystem
Experienced in PHP, MySQL, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
Experience implementing Facebook Pixels and Google Ads
Ability to integrate designs provided by designers into existing or new WordPress custom themes using up-to-date, mobile-friendly techniques like responsive design and grid or flexbox layouts.
Experience working with the Mailchimp API
Ability to write clean and readable code compliant with existing coding guidelines
Proficient with Git version management, time management, and analytical skills
Ability to work remotely as an individual contributor, while also collaborating regularly with team members.
Reliable access to the internet, a computer, smartphone, and workspace
Willingness to attend meetings and collaborate with coworkers in the ET timezone
Fluency in spoken and written English as well as an ability to translate complex technical details into simple language

Work Test: After screening applications, we will invite selected applicants to complete a take-home work test which should take about two hours. We will pay an honorarium of $80 to candidates who submit a reasonable attempt at the test task. 
Please do not apply if you do not wish to participate in a paid work test.

First Interview: We will invite selected candidates to a technical interview with our web development consultant.
Second Interview: Selected candidates will then interview with the Executive Director and the Vice President of Operations.
We will ask for two references and make a final offer. We do our best to keep all candidates posted about the status of their application within 4-5 weeks.
