Project Description:

The USAID-funded Uzbekistan All Children Succeeding Activity aim to improve the learning outcomes of Uzbekistani primary school students. To achieve this, the activity will strengthen the capacity of education sector systems to provide quality learning environments with the instruction, materials and support that children need while they are in school, at home, or in the community. Equity and inclusion will serve as core principles of this activity; therefore, interventions will work to address the learning needs of children with disabilities and integrate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure that approaches reach and support all children.

The UDL Specialist will work under the supervision of the Inclusive Education Specialist. S/he will support the integration of UDL principles across all aspects of the activity implementation, including curricula, teacher professional development, community engagement, and education systems reform. S/he will support the application of UDL best practices and techniques within the education system, in collaboration with partners, government institutions, higher learning institutions, and community organizations, with a focus on inclusive education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise related to UDL across all project objectives, activities, materials, and trainings.
  • Support inclusive education mapping and gap analysis assessments using UDL lens.
  • Provide expert guidance on the mapping, analysis, and revision of teaching and learning materials (TLMs) and curriculum to integrate UDL principles.
  • Support the coordination with relevant Ministry and other stakeholders to strengthen and align assessment tools and practices to UDL.
  • Support the review and update of various coaching and mentoring materials to incorporate UDL.
  • Facilitate the integration of UDL in pre-service education and during in-service classroom instruction.
  • Contribute to the production of project deliverables, including annual implementation plans, MEL plan, and quarterly and annual reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a field relevant to this activity (PhD preferable), or alternatively six years of experience in a relevant field in lieu of a Master’s degree.
  • A minimum of four years of professional experience in integrating UDL principles in education activities, which may include teaching and learning material development, assessments, teacher professional development, and systems reform.
  • Experience working closely in partnership with government counterparts, international development agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other collaborators/stakeholders.
  • Experience living and/or working in Uzbekistan and/or the Central Asia region.
  • Advanced professional proficiency in Uzbek and/or Russian required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are preferred.
