UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a full-time internship position within the Refugee Status Determination Section of the Division of International Protection, at UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

Organisational context
The Refugee Status Determination Section manages the content of UNHCR¿s Global Law and Policy Database: refworld.org. This database (www.refworld.org) serves as a repository of UNHCR¿s policy and guidance documents, as well as relevant legislation, case law and other reference documents relating to refugee law and statelessness. The Refworld website will be migrated to a new content management system and, in light of this migration, a content revision is conducted, as well as a revision of the metadata assigned to the documents available on refworld.org.
The Position
We are looking for a dynamic, analytical and innovative intern who has experience in (legal) research and content management, who can support the RSD Section in the Refworld Revamp. ¿
Duties and Responsibilities
The Incumbent¿s Tasks Shall Include, Inter Alia
¿ Assisting in the revision of the content to be migrated or archived;
¿ Undertaking research and assisting in the review of the metadata;
¿ Reviewing and editing editorial content shared by UNHCR colleagues;
¿ Supporting activities relating to the content migration;
¿ Assisting in the preparation of meetings;
¿ Assisting in the annotation of data and reviewing of data for machine learning purposes;
¿ Undertaking Other Tasks As Required.
What the intern will learn
¿ Understanding of management of content relating to policy and legal information;
¿ Understanding of the development process of a multilingual, global repository;
¿ Understanding of the importance of metadata for accessibility and usability of legal content;
¿ Working in a multicultural and multilingual team.
Desirable Qualifications And Skills
¿ Bachelor or Master¿s degree in law, with a focus on refugee law, international human rights law, and/or international humanitarian law;
¿ Excellent English skills (written and oral);
¿ Strong organizational skills;
¿ Strong legal research, analytical (including data analysis), and information management skills;
¿ Meticulous attention to detail;
¿ Very good knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
¿ Flexibility, teamwork skills, professional and personal integrity;
¿ Experience with metadata tagging;
¿ Knowledge of machine learning / artificial intelligence;
¿ Knowledge of content management systems (in particular Drupal) an asset;
¿ Knowledge of Spanish, Russian, French and/or German;
¿ Knowledge of Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
Minimum Qualifications Required
In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
¿ Be either a recent graduate (having completed their studies within one year of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO ; and
¿ Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.
NOTE: An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
Conditions
It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 9.00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will be assigned to support the team in Geneva, Switzerland; however, bearing in mind COVID-19 imposed restrictions, remote working arrangements might be possible, and working from home will in any case sometimes be required.
Allowance: Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
