Job Description

Within The Framework Of The UN Common System And UN Staff Regulations And Rules, UN Women’s Human Resources Division Directs And Supports The Delivery Of Responsive And Quality Human Resource Management Services, Ensuring Integration And Synergy In The Development Of a Comprehensive Human Resources Management Framework. It Leads And Facilitates Organizational Change And Development And Advises The Organization On Strategies To Attract, Retain, Develop And Motivate Human Talent Across The Range Of Specialized Occupations Critical To The Delivery Of The Organization’s Mandate Through The Following Sub-areas

Under the guidance of the Human Resources Director, the Advisor will work towards achieving a work environment that is free of racial and all other prejudices. The Advisor will lead the development, implementation and monitoring of diversity and inclusion programmes within UN Women, build partnerships within and outside UN Women, and manage and disseminate knowledge in the area of diversity and inclusion.

Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of diversity and inclusion programmes in UN Women, in collaboration with key stakeholders & representative bodies including the Staff Council, the Black Caucus, Youth Council, colleagues from the LGBTIQ+ community and others.

  • Provide substantive support to the Human Resources Director in fulfilling her responsibilities for the achievement of equitable geographic representation and diverse workforce.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of an internal diversity and inclusion strategy and Action Plan for UN Women, in consultation with personnel globally.
  • Lead the efforts to achieve and sustain an organization which is inclusive, diverse with meaningfully shared authority ensuring that a wide range of staff have meaningful responsibility and oversight vis-à-vis policy, programming and resource allocation.
  • In coordination with the Human Resources Division, develop diversity analytics, including benchmarking, tracking metrics, analyzing and generating diversity reporting for various audience to highlight trends and demonstrate impact of D&I programs and initiatives.
  • Provide input to and ensure inclusive and diverse recruitment & hire, career progression, assignment to posts with responsibility.

Lead the initiative on Let’s speak about race and discrimination and other internal initiatives to address racism in the organization.

  • Participate and collaborate in system wide efforts to address racial inequality and systematically contribute to system wide change.  
  • Develop and oversee an action plan to address racism and discrimination in the organization in close coordination with key stakeholders.
  • Organize and coordinate internal events on racial discrimination and other forms of discrimination.
  • Contribute to the development of training programs and seminars on diversity and inclusion for UN Women personnel.

Build and manage partnerships within and outside UN Women and represent UN Women as needed.

  • Establish collaboration and partnerships with leaders at all levels in UN Women and counterparts and stakeholders outside the organization, including with other UN agencies.
  • Seek best practice and share knowledge with other UN agencies and other partners.

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Functional Competencies

Education And Certifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, gender, international development, business administration, management, economics or a related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Advanced studies in the field of diversity and inclusion or organizational change management is desirable.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the area of gender equality, public policy, social justice or human rights.
  • Extensive experience in programme management and policy development.
  • Experience working in the area of diversity and inclusion.
  • Experience in advisory capacity on racial discrimination is desirable
  • Experience in working on innovation and change management initiatives is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.

The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact.
