Climate17 are proud to partner with Science Based Target initiative and World Resources Institute to look for a Transport Sector Lead based in Mexico or USA, who will lead the development of standards, guidance, tools, and technical resources to enable the adoption of 1.5°c-aligned targets in the energy sector.

This is a key role for our environment – you will work for SBTi – the Science Based Target initiative – a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Responsibilities

Transport Sector Lead will be a key member of the Sectoral Development Team.

The SBTi Transport Lead will work to help develop sector-specific resources including standards, guidance and tools to drive the adoption of climate targets in line with the ambition required to limit warming to 1.5°C with a special focus on the transport sector.

The Sectoral Development team, a key pillar of the SBTi Technical Department, enables adoption and guides interpretation of SBTi corporate standards at the sector level. The team leads the origination and implementation of projects to translate SBTi standards into sector-specific standards, guidance and tools at the sectoral level.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development of standards, guidance, tools and technical resources to enable the adoption of 1.5°C-aligned targets in the transport sector;
  • Project coordination and stakeholder management for sector-specific resources to be developed in line with the SBTi standard-setting protocols;
  • Conduct research to identify suitable scenarios, decarbonization roadmaps and mitigation pathways to develop science-based target setting resources for the transport sector;
  • Support queries management and capacity building related to the transport sector;
  • Support with other ad-hoc research and technical activities as required by the Science Based Targets initiative

Requirements

  • 5 to 8 years of professional experience, preferably within a corporate sustainability, account management and/or relationship management role.
  • Demonstrable expertise in climate mitigation in the transport sector within an industrial, consulting, academic or civil society context.
  • Good command of mitigation pathways, climate scenarios and decarbonization roadmaps.
  • Good knowledge of corporate GHGs accounting and science-based target setting is required.
  • Background in climate change, sustainability, environmental engineering, and/or sustainable development.
  • Professional, effective, and flexible team player, with proven ability to work with high-level representatives from the business, investors and civil society community
  • Ability to digest and communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a remote work environment.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) with excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Results oriented, ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a constantly evolving environment
  • Able to work in an international and multi-cultural setting
  • Desirable criteria:
  • Familiarity with agile and/or other project management approaches.
  • Familiarity with standard-setting protocols, including ISEAL, ISO and others.
  • Experience in science-based target-setting
