The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain,
Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all
Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and
Programmes of the UN system worldwide.
The position is located in the Campus Support Unit within the Central Service at the UNGSC,
Brindisi, Italy.
The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Chief Campus Support or other
designated officer.

Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Transport Assistant is responsible for the following:
• Monitors the UN-owned vehicle fleet (138 vehicles) and associated assets via a combination
of electronic inventory management and periodic condition assessment.
• Receives and distributes vehicles and equipment to the various mission offices, in
accordance with the relevant mission procedures,
• Conducts physical inspections and ‘spot checks’ ensuring the accuracy of inventory records
and detecting damage and losses.
• Performs car log management.
• Compiles periodic reports and documentation regarding fleet status and deployment.
• Performs contract management of local ground transportation, provision of fuel and office
movements related contracts.
• Oversees distribution, usage, management and storage of bulk fuel received in line with the
UN control mechanisms (EFMS, Internal SOP and Fuel Management Guidelines)
• Coordinates with local authorities and other clients on local ground transportation matters
(vehicle registration and renewal, UN plates, tax rebates, etc…).
• Coordinates cost recoveries for the liberty use of UN vehicles.
• Delivers driving training to staff and other personnel.
• Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations
and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning
and decision making.
• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or
brochures.
• Performs a variety of additional, ad-hoc tasks as and when required by the supervisor.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Job Specific Qualifications
Valid driving license type A,B, C, D and E is required.
Forklift operator certificate (minimum 3 Tons) is desirable.

Work Experience
At minimum of seven (07) years of progressively responsible experience in transport
operations management is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to
five (5) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
Experience in leading teams is desirable.
Experience in Transport Dispatch operations is desirable.
Experience in Inventory Control and Fuel management is desirable.
Experience in operating heavy and material handling equipment is desirable.
Experience working in the UN Common system or similar international organizations is
desirable.
