Training Officer

Citizens Advice North Oxfordshire and South Northamptonshire

Salary- £26,000 pro rata per annum

Working Hours- 18.5h

Deliver training to the Advice Service staff and volunteers, so that advice quality is maintained and a quality service provided. Training is provided either 1-2-1 or in small groups, both online and in person at our Banbury and Bicester offices.

Guide trainees, both volunteers and paid staff, through online training including booking on to Skillbook webinars, and meet with them regularly individually or in small groups to discuss progress and answer questions about the content, and arrange or deliver more expert face-to-face input as needed.

Certificate advisers – whether observed by the trainer or another designated person and ensure we are compliant with audit requirements regarding training records.

Keep up-to-date with national Citizens Advice requirements via forums and Workplace, and update the advice team accordingly.

Implement training plans arising out of appraisals or where refresher training in particular advice areas is identified as being needed and maintain close contact with supervisors, volunteers, and paid advice team members.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Training and certification of advice service personnel,
  • Training and development of paid staff,
  • Coordination of trainees into Advice Service roster for observed interviews,
  • Training reports, gap analysis and update of annual training plan,
  • Coordination and planning of statutory training refreshers (GDPR etc),
  • Maintaining training records for audit compliance & supervision of Training Administrator,
  • Awareness and promotion of wider training opportunities available to the VCSE,
  • Engage with other Training Officers to maintain awareness of national training developments,
  • Plan and deliver training within the training budget and forecast training requirements as part of budget planning process

  • Strong IT skills, able to communicate and collaborate effectively online,
  • Experience of checking understanding and assessing trainees,
  • Experience of training coordination and monitoring,
  • Training experience gained in a work environment (desirable),
  • Training experience gained face to face and online,
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels

Desirable criteria:

  • Local knowledge of Cherwell and South Northants,
  • Awareness of national training strategy
