What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and their International Federation to ensure a concerted, rational, and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose of the position

To support the operations of the Weapon Contamination (WeC) Team, mainly in the area of information management and the preparation of communication materials. The position may also involve additional activities and projects depending on the Team’s priorities, which can evolve yearly.

Reports to (role)

Deputy Head of Weapons and Contamination Unit.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

Data management

  • Contribute to the collection, management, and visualization of WeC-related data;
  • Support WeC programs in customizing and using standard data collection templates/tools, as well as the creation, testing, and maintenance of surveys in Device Magic;
  • Dialogue with ICRC Delegation in support of their WeC data-related activities;
  • Update the unit’s data management guidelines to reflect current priorities and objectives;
  • Provide support to WeC Talent Manager in the, optimization, and visualization of the Unit HR data source.

Communication

  • Collaborate with WeC Learning & Development manager to update and implement the unit’s communications plan based on encouraged priorities and objectives;
  • Prepare the quarterly WeC newsletter;
  • Provide content updates for the WeC online Jive community.

Certifications and Professional Experience required

  • Graduated, within the past two years, with a degree in International relations and diplomacy, public health, health management, epidemiology, communication, information/data management, or any other relevant field;
  • A maximum of one year professional experience (related to the roles described above) since the awarding of the degree;
  • Previous experience in handling and analyzing data sets.

Desired profile and skills

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (Competency in Arabic, French, Russian, and Spanish an asset);
  • Excellent computer skills including but not limited to proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and data collection and data visualization software (e.g. Device Magic, Tableau, Excel, Power BI, or similar/equivalent tools);
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with handling quantitative and qualitative data.
