Traineeship in the Field of Institutional Partnerships

International Committee of the Red Cross

Requisition ID: 19285

Region: Europe (HQ)

Contract type: Traineeship

What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We advise and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The ICRC’s Institutional Strategy 2019-2024 sets as a strategic orientation working with others, particularly with Movement partners, to achieve greater impact and more durable solutions for people affected by conflict and violence. The orientation recognizes that the complexity of challenges and the gaps between needs and response cannot be met by a single approach or organization.

In order to ensure the implementation of results of the Institutional Roadmap for Strategic Orientation 3 (Working with others), the purpose of this post is to continue building partnering capabilities in generals, seeking for alignments to support the Movement ambition, adapting systems and processes and improving the organizational readiness to partner with Development Actors and Movement partners for balanced humanitarian impact (SHI). To this end, the Partnerships Associate works closely with the Partnerships Coordinator (red line) and the head of the Movement Partnership, Policy and Legal affairs (PPL) unit (blue line), as well as with colleagues working on partnerships within the Movement and Development Actors. They serve as a focal point for a mapping and data collecting project on partnership, support to improving partnership capabilities and guidelines, supporting relevant Movement partnership initiatives and disseminating partnering knowledge through existing communication tools and platform (JIVE, Newsletter, case studies, etc.). they act as a support in the running of a Partnerships governance mechanism (the Partnership Council) and its workstreams and priorities.

They will be part of a new team in a new department and will work closely with colleagues across the house. As the future Partnerships set-up and working modalities are crafted and clarified in 2022/2023, the scope & impact of the Partnership Associate will evolve.
