Job Summary:
The Senior Payroll Specialist will support Payroll Operations during the implementation of a time and attendance system. You will play an integral role in a collaborative team supporting the payroll function including the financial component of benefits and retirement plans as well as other initiatives. Reporting to the Payroll Operations and Pension Manager, the Senior Payroll Specialist will produce payrolls using a cloud solution and utilize their advanced knowledge of payroll practices, compliance, methodologies and procedures to deliver timely and accurate services to our customers.

What You’ll be Doing:
Collaborate with the team to complete pay production activities for the payrolls, including processing integration files, time files and other inputs to ADP Workforce Now
Use reconciliation processes to review pay preview reports and confirm readiness for live runs
Complete Payroll Accounting activities, accruals, reviews and timely reconciliation of payroll accounts
Support monthly remittances to third party agencies, including Workers Compensation Boards
Initiate Sharepoint approval workflows to request payroll funding and to submit payroll general ledger files for integration with accounting platform in SAP
Maintain and update payroll process documentation and checklists
Ensure that confidential and sensitive data is protected by the security and privacy protocols of the company
Respond timely to payroll questions and employee inquiries and assist with issue resolution
Collaborate with the Payroll and HR teams for process reviews and optimization. Support future state business process mapping.
Support year-end and new-year activities including determining true-up amounts for tax slip reporting, preparing system import files to update pension adjustments and taxable benefits on employee records, T4/RL1/T4A balancing
Provide backup coverage for vacations and/or high-volume work efforts
Able to work outside of business hours during peak periods

What You’ll Bring:
Minimum 5 years of progressive senior payroll experience
ADP Workforce Now working experience is required; experience with Workday and UKG Dimensions is an asset.
Experienced with producing end-to-end payroll cycles for multi-province, multi-frequency payrolls, including Quebec
Extensive working experience with computerized payroll systems, integrations, preparing import files, auditing preview reports to confirm accuracy
Working knowledge of taxable benefits assessments, pension and retirement plans administration, accounting practices as they pertain to payroll and pension, internal controls
Strong proficiency with Excel with the ability to manipulate and calculate large data, including the use of pivot tables, functions/formulas.
Solution-oriented, continuous improvement mindset to work smartly, leveraging technology and other tools to automate / simplify internal processes, minimize paperwork and reduce cycle time
Highly developed communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to effectively facilitate information sharing and updates
Committed to continuous learning and enhancing professional and technical knowledge, staying current with legislative changes and internal policies
Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams, key partners and stakeholders, i.e. HR, Accounting, Tax, ADP, external Consultants
Planning, prioritization and execution skills, keen attention to detail, sound judgment, analytical ability
Problem solving skills to research solutions for complex or non-routine cases; clearly present findings and possible solutions
High degree of integrity, discretion, strong work ethic and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
