Start Network

INTRODUCTION

Start Network is a global membership of more than 50 organisations, working across 6 continents, to tackle what it sees as the biggest systemic problems in the humanitarian system.

The current global system is not accountable to people affected by crises.

Problems we’re addressing:

  • Decision-making is centralised, and priorities are disconnected from the end-user.
  • It is reactive, fragmented, and inefficient.
  • The humanitarian system’s incentives and ways of working are outdated, inflexible, and resistant to change.

Start Network’s vision is for a locally led humanitarian system that is accountable to people affected by and at risk of crises. We aim to achieve this vision by making systemic-level shifts in the way humanitarian assistance is approached and delivered by:

  • Shifting power and decentralising decision making to locally led networks and organisations.
  • Creating a global financing system that reduces risk, anticipates, and acts ahead of predictable crises.
  • Incentivising and informing innovative, contextual, and sustainable solutions for people affected by crises.

BACKGROUND

The Guatemala Hub is part of Start Network’s evolution into a decentralised network of networks, which is made up of Hubs operating in specific countries or regions. These Hubs provide platforms for organisations to share learning and innovation that propels context-responsive humanitarian action within the given country or region.

The Guatemala Hub works to support cohesive communities with mutual solidarity, and a space to actively advocate for their rights to humanitarian preparation and response. The Guatemala Hub has 10 members, all community-based, local or national organisations.

Start Network would like to produce 1 video that showcases Guatemala Hub’s innovation work. It will feature the Community-Led Innovation Programme (CLIP) and its outcomes thus far. The target audience for this video is people who do not have prior knowledge of Start Network, so it should provide an explanation of the Hubs and then delve deeper into the impact that innovation programmes within Start Network Hubs have made in communities at-risk and affected by crisis.

More detailed information on this project will be provided to the selected videographers. We will facilitate plans between the selected videographer/s and our colleagues in Guatemala for support.
