We are seeking a Technology Leader (Director) to advance and align the digital technology and IT capabilities with the Discovery Sciences (DS) and Technology, Commercialization (TAC) business units. This position works closely with all DST and TAC leaders, partnering to develop the strategic plan and roadmap for specific digital technology capabilities focused on lab business/activities. The role will work with the business and partner to understand client needs and develop strategic plans for new and existing services. This position will be responsible for governing and coordinating strategic planning, embedded digital transformation staff and digital resources to ensure the successful execution of RTI’s integrated digital technology strategy and DST and TAC growth strategies.
Essential Duties
- Lead the development of the DST and TAC digital technology strategies and roadmap, ensure its integration with the unit and enterprise business strategy and plans.
- Provide a single point of coordination and executive oversight for all DST and TAC digital initiatives and transformation projects.
- Partner with key stakeholders across the company, including the enterprise IT function, to create and drive the execution of the DST and TAC level digital technology strategies, data management strategy, and to identify the opportunities for differentiating digital capabilities and solutions.
- Manage a team of staff focused on digital architecture, data analysis, data security and management, digital technology project management, and digital product management.
- Identify and evaluate DST and TAC internal digital asset capabilities and strengths. Assess external digital opportunities and threats as key inputs to making the best decisions on digital technology strategy.
- Partner with key stakeholders to develop digital business solutions to create a competitive edge for the organization. Work with business unit staff to define and prioritize digital strategies, solutions, and implementations.
- Act as a champion and change agent, aligning executive level stakeholders around the organizational changes required to create and sustain digital capabilities.
- Act as a thought leader on emerging digital business models and technologies, articulating the digital future and the enterprise’s role in it.
- Foster an internal culture of teamwork, collaboration and integration that drives excellent service, quality, diversity of thought, an engaging work environment and overall performance improvement.
- Attract and retain top talent and build digital capabilities across the unit and institute.
- Establish and manage effective relationships between business partners and embedded digital technology staff.
- Identify, define, and hire for emerging roles as needed in the digital technology group in support of digital transformation strategy and planning.
The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below. Our pay ranges represent national averages and may vary by location as a geographic differential may be applied to some locations within the United States.
Education & Experience Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, IT, engineering, computer science, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Ten or more years of progressive leadership experience, including leading cross-functional teams and enterprise-wide programs, operating, and influencing effectively across the organization and within complex contexts.
Skills & Abilities
- Proven expertise in digital technology transformation and automation
- Working knowledge and experience with laboratory sciences from a digital technology perspective, for example Lab instrumentation software (e.g., LabView), data analysis (e.g., Matlab, R Python, Origin), modeling simulation (e.g., ASPEN, TEA, Solid Works), laboratory networking and data retrieval
- Proven experience with customer-centric design and driving product development
- Expert in IT strategic planning, communications, and financial management
- Expert in IT governance formulation and organizational change management
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute long-range strategic plans
- Ability to effectively drive business, culture, and digital technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment
- Deep understanding of the evolving digital landscape on both the demand side (how people/companies are using digital technology) and the supply side (emerging technologies)
- Experience in project management, agile/scrum delivery models, and release management
- Strong business acumen
- Proven track record of successful team leadership and development
- Proven track record of innovation, both in internal problem solving and in fostering innovative uses of digital technology in the organization
- Strong customer and user experience focus
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with all organizational levels
