Chemonics

Chemonics seeks a technical writer for the ongoing FCDO and Norad funded MOBILIST programme. Mobilizing Institutional Capital Through Listed Product Structures’ (MOBILIST) is a programme targeting listed markets for their potential to mobilize large scale investment flows. Its overarching strategic objective is to help catalyst new vehicles for financial intermediation (through a public market approach) that begin to accelerate investment flows needed to bridge the financing gap. The programme seeks to partner with the financial services industry in developing listed products that can intermediate this capital, and in a form that responds to the prudential regulations and investment models that today define the scope of opportunity for institutional capital.

Ensuring sustainable finance continues to scale in developing countries will require the engagement of Asset Managers (AMs), Asset Owners (AOs), policymakers, donors and the entire emerging market financial and private sector development ecosystem. The communications and advocacy function will drive this engagement, leveraging the research and monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) outputs, as well as the traction of the MOBILIST Product Platform. Stakeholder engagement to ensure uptake of the research will be central to the communications and advocacy work. Through strategic communications, the Policy Platform will bring its demand-driven research to key stakeholders and support them in making evidence-based investment decisions in markets perceived to have high information asymmetry.

As the programme continues its implementation phase, Chemonics requires the services of a Technical Writer to write reports relating to programme outputs and the operating environment over the course of the year. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Review existing programme materials, gather additional information from programme staff, and interview stakeholders and other beneficiaries
  • Develop draft outlines and text for a range of report(s)
  • Develop sound, compelling technical content that aids research dissemination, engages and informs stakeholders and supports the deployment of development finance through public markets
  • Write the State of the market (SoM) report, a 10,000-20,000 word report that consolidates market research and direct investment experiences and insight at the development finance-public markets nexus
  • Write a blog post to synthesize findings of MOBILIST research and events into concise and digestible formats for broader uptake

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, social sciences, international development, or related field required
  • Minimum five years’ experience in communications and knowledge management, including experience writing and producing reports, creating knowledge management strategies, and/or other technical knowledge management and communications products/strategies for a donor-funded project
  • Experience working with FCDO is a plus
  • Previous experience in financial services sector required
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities required. Prior experience writing published articles and material is required
  • Good understanding of development finance and relevant terminology strongly preferred
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure with diverse teams across multiple geographic areas and manage production schedules
