Project Overview

Project CONVERGE is a 3-year project funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations that aims to reduce drivers of violent conflict and increase community resilience in the three program locations and create an enabling environment for social cohesion and development. The project is implemented in partnership with three locally-based non-government organizations namely, Integrated Resource Development for Tri-People (IRDT), Kadtuntaya Foundation, Inc. (KFI), and Nagdilaab Foundation, Inc. (NFI) in nine local government units (LGU) – Tungawan and Ipil in the Province of Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga City, Datu Salibo and Radjah Buayan in the Province of Maguindanao, Cotabato City, and Maluso, Tuburan, and Lamitan City in the Province of Basilan.

Specifically, Project CONVERGE seeks to 1) Build the capacity of local community non-government organizations (NGOs), local government units (LGUs) and key stakeholders to identify and effectively address violent conflict and build community resilience through evidence-based analyses; 2) Address specific peace and community resilience needs in vulnerable local population segments through small grants to LGUs and local NGO; and 3) Increase coordination among LGUs, local community NGOs, researchers, and key stakeholders to improve their ability to address violent conflict and strengthen community resilience sustainably through collaborative, self-financed initiatives and programming.

Level of Effort

This consultancy is for six months (August 2022 to January 2023) with an estimated 45-day level of effort.

Scope of Work of the Contractor

The Technical Writer and Editor will be responsible to co-develop outward facing written pieces that will be shared to key partners – government, NGOs and CSOs, donors, and other stakeholders. The materials should be interesting and relevant to read for a wide audience. Specifically, the consultant’s role includes:

• In collaboration and coordination with project team, create various forms of learning materials and communication products.
• For the above, conduct desk research and maintain repository of appropriate reference materials used to substantiate the revisions, and facilitate remote consultations with implementing partners as necessary.
• Responsible for revisions, including copy editing and re-writing as need to into user-friendly content—translating complex contents and information into simple, polished, and engaging contents that meets the needs of the target audience, and turning insights into pragmatic language for the users.
• Provide technical advice and contribution on products quality assurance, appeal, and dissemination plan.
• Ensure all written work is authentic, original and appropriately cited and referenced.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the field of communications, social science, or any relevant technical field
• Skilled and with experience in writing and editing for different type of media and audiences including user manuals and guides, case studies, technical reviews and reports, and blogs and success stories.
• Ability to do research, fact-check, and appropriately cite reference materials.
• With published written or co-written communication products.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with timely approach to work and deadlines.
• Knowledge and familiarity with context of conflict-affected or post-conflict areas particularly their political landscape, peace process, development initiatives, governance, and security-related matters.
