Know our Team

Nutrition International promotes an evidence-based approach to advocacy, decision making, multi-sectoral country planning, and the setting of nutrition agendas. The Global Technical Services (GTS) Unit is Nutrition International’s Centre of Technical Excellence. The GTS Unit, based in Ottawa, leads on the quality assurance of and technical support to Nutrition International’s research and programs to influence and improve national and global policies and practice. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Technical Officer, Maternal & Newborn Health & Nutrition (MNHN) to be based in Ottawa, ON, Canada.

About the Role

Nutrition International is partnering with the Government of Pakistan, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, on a three-year project to transition and scale antenatal Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) nationally.

The Technical Officer, MNHN, will work closely with the GTS Project Technical Advisor and cross-functional project teams to provide technical support for the project’s work packages and products. With a focus on nutrition and global health, the Technical Officer will contribute to the design, coordination, rollout, and implementation of feasibility studies and other technical deliverables, ensuring adherence to high technical standards and collaboration with internal and external experts.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to technical review and quality assurance of project aspects
  • Adapt and operationalize tools, training, and resources based on assessments
  • Provide technical inputs for design, implementation, and analysis of studies
  • Support review, analysis, and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Integrate gender equality throughout the project life cycle
  • Stay updated on latest evidence and best practices in MNHN
  • Prepare and disseminate knowledge products for internal/external audiences
  • Contribute to peer-reviewed publications and documentation
  • Provide input to project monitoring data collection and management
  • Support accurate reporting of NI outputs and outcomes
  • Contribute to donor reporting as needed
  • Travel up to 30% to project areas or for representation

About you

  • Master’s degree in nutrition, public health, or related field.
  • 2 years of work experience in research or technical role for an international NGO, research institute, or public sector agency in public health nutrition.
  • Training in epidemiology and research methodology.
  • Expertise in integrating gender equality into public health and development programs.
  • Strong interest and expertise in health system strengthening.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, and communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and reporting skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with research tools and software desirable.
  • Willing to travel up to 30% to project areas for representation; must be able to travel to Pakistan.
  • This position is based in our HQ Ottawa office. As such, the ideal candidate must be within a commutable distance to Ottawa to fulfill in-person requirements.
