OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Currently, The Unit Has Five Core Functions Namely

The mission of the Behavioural Insights and Science Unit at WHO is to mainstream and scale up the use of behavioural sciences across the organization.

  • Create normative tools and manage a technical advisory group (TAG);
  • Provide technical support to WHO teams across the three levels;
  • Build capacity on behavioural science among WHO staff and its partners;
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing
  • Position WHO as a key player in the field of behavioural science for health

Description Of Duties

Under the guidance and supervision of the Head of the WHO Behavioural insights and science unit and the Director for Communications the incumbent will work across the five core strategic areas and perform the following duties:

  • Support the management of activities related to WHO’s Technical Advisory Group for behavioural insights and sciences for better health (TAG).
  • Support the implementation of tools and services for the mainstreaming of behavioural science.
  • Coordinate the implementation of selected pilot projects.
  • Coordinate the knowledge-management-and-information-sharing strategy.
  • Coordinate a Behavioural Insight network with regional and country offices.
  • Support the implementation of training programmes in behavioural science and others as needed.

Core Responsibilities

Under the leadership of the Unit’s head

  • Support the coordination of the secretariat of the TAG and the related TAG management activities, in particular, planning and set up of online and presential meetings and consultations with specific tasks before, during and after each consultation.
  • Pre-Meeting: preparation of background material such as background papers, literature reviews, concept notes, agenda, relations withTAG members and eventual temporary advisors or other temporary partners.
  • Coordination with WHO technical units or country offices;
  • During the meeting: facilitation of meetings, including the development of facilitation tools, ensuring engagement and achievement of the objectives of the meeting;
  • After the meeting, elaborate notes reports and follow up activities as agreed by the TAG and other involved teams.
  • Support the creation, further development and refinement or maintenance of a variety of tools and services needed to support the mainstreaming of behavioural science into WHO work such as the maintenance of rosters of experts and consultants; maintenance of long term agreements with behavioural science implementing partners and with collaborating centres;
  • Coordinate the publication and updates of toolkits, case studies, manuals, checklists and related.
  • Support adherence to internal processes for example to obtain clearance to publications or ethical clearance.
  • Coordinate activities needed to support the head of the unit and the behavioural scientist providing WHO technical units or WHO regional or country offices technical assistance for the design and implementation of pilot projects.
  • Coordinate the knowledge-management-and-information-sharing strategy including drafting and publishing of regular updates on the website, workplace, as well as a plan for regular webinars for WHO staff.
  • The strategy includes the development and harmonization of a series of information products such as unit slide decks, infographics, social media assets, as well as coordinating the unit’s internet and workplace webpage, the development of case studies, summaries or others aimed to improve the understanding of the work of the behavioural insights and science unit.
  • The technical officer supports the production of the unit’s publications.
  • Coordinate a network of behavioural science focal points in headquarter, regional and country offices with regular meetings and follow up activities.
  • Support the Behavioural scientist develop behavioural science training packages or tailored sessions.
  • Other duties as requested by the unit’s head.

Required Qualifications

Education

Essential: University degree in behavioural and social sciences, psychology, marketing and strategic communications, public health, management or other relevant field.

Desirable: Master’s degree in any of the above fields.

Experience

Essential: At least five years of working experience within social, behavioural and/or communication sciences for behavioural change or social marketing or public policy analysis. At least two years of experience working at the international level; At least three years of practical experience implementing or advising on key domains related to public health specifically.

Desirable: Experience working in low- and middle-income settings; Familiarity with WHO systems and culture or that of another UN body; Proven experience in projects coordination and management of processes of a diverse nature (planning, implementation and evaluation).

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,692 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4326 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
