Working in the GRC National Headquarters in Berlin, you will help shape the future direction of the DRK e.V. as a national Red Cross society and umbrella organisation of non-statutory welfare organisations. Every day, you will support GRC’s work providing comprehensive aid for people in conflict situations, disasters and health or social emergency situations, solely based on their level of need.

GRC is currently seeking a Technical Manager Health.

The position sits in the division 6, International Cooperation of the GRC headquarters and is assigned to department 64, knowledge and innovation. The department implements a global project funded by the German Federal Foreign Office to develop further the thematic areas of health, disaster risk reduction (DRR), anticipatory action as well as the integration of these thematic areas; thereby also considering the use of cash and voucher assistance (CVA) and cross-cutting topics such as climate change, digitization etc. Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is considered to be an integral part of health interventions. You are part of the health unit and responsible for the technical support to humanitarian and development cooperation projects worldwide with components of health. As part of the work division in the health unit, the support to a specific region of the world may be assigned to you.

The employment is full-time (100%). The employment offer is initially limited to two years. An extension of employment is sought, the project is scheduled to 31.12.2025.

Your tasks:

  • Provide technical advice and support to GRC health projects, particularly in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of health projects in coordination with GRC country teams, based on request and needs of Red Cross and Red Crescent (RCRC) Sister National Societies.
  • Conduct ongoing technical analysis of GRC health projects and identify relevant emerging trends in all areas of health, including WASH, one health, CVA for health, and climate change.
  • Provide support to GRC country teams in all matters related to health programming also beyond existing projects and approaches in support of the partnership with RCRC Sister National Societies.
  • With health as a sectoral topic of relevance in all phases of the disaster continuum (incl. DRR/preparedness, anticipatory action and response), ensure good coordination and proactively collaborate with different teams/units/functions in the GRC international cooperation division.
  • Document best practices in humanitarian health interventions and approaches and contribute to scientific work on relevant topics.
  • Further develop health approaches and methodologies, with a particular focus on humanitarian assistance.
  • Support the design and delivery of trainings, workshops and other capacity building initiatives with regards to health.
  • In all these efforts, ensure a bottom-up, collaborative and integrated approach to knowledge transfer and innovation.
  • Organize and/or participate in relevant events, webinars, expert meetings, trainings, and workshops on health topics.
  • Contribute to networking and coordination with relevant stakeholders in and outside the RCRC movement.
  • Assist with communication as well as contribute to policy and advocacy activities on health in and outside of the RCRC movement.
  • Contribute to all relevant monitoring and reporting activities and requirements of the health unit.

Your profile:

  • University degree in Public Health or related field
  • Medical background is a strong asset
  • At least 5 years’ experience in humanitarian assistance and/or development cooperation
  • At least 3 years of experience in direct project implementation in the field with focus on (community-based) health interventions
  • Experience in project cycle management; including assessments, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, learning (MEAL)
  • Experience in the development, contextualization or roll-out of methodologies or guidelines for humanitarian health programming is a strong asset
  • Experience in development and conducting trainings or workshops is a strong asset
  • Experience in working with local partner organisations
  • Experience of working within the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is a strong asset
  • Detailed knowledge of (community-based) health approaches; knowledge of the relevant RCRC approaches is a strong asset
  • Good IT skills and familiarity with the Microsoft 365 tools
  • Ability and skill to prepare presentations and present these to larger audiences
  • Good ability to think and work in complex contexts
  • High quality awareness and sense for detail
  • Strong ability to work in a team and a strong will to cooperate
  • Fluent in spoken and written English; fluency in German is a strong asset; Spanish, French, or Arabic is an additional asset
  • Availability and willingness to travel abroad, fitness for travel in the tropics and other challenging environments
