This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team within the Naval Centre of Expertise in a challenging but rewarding role to manage a portfolio of vessels within a mature client relationship.

The position offers a unique chance to combine hybrid working with waterfront activity in a flexible and tailored approach and help deliver continuous improvements in an expanding and developing sector. The role could equally suit someone from an office-based customer-focused technical support background looking to develop waterfront surveying experience or someone seeking to move into a more client facing environment to augment their existing surveying skillsets.

The Naval Centre of Expertise (NCoE) Office is located in Bristol but the team is hybrid working at home with regular planned attendance in office and the successful applicant will enjoy the same opportunities for flexible working. The surveying element of the role offers a valuable opportunity to get out to actively engage at the waterfront end of the business.

The Lloyd’s Register Naval sector is steadily growing; this is a good opportunity to join us in a busy but very close-knit Naval team where we work hard for each other to generate the success we enjoy together. You must be able to achieve UK SC security clearance for this role and although there is no requirement to be based in the South-West area, you need to be able to attend in the NCoE Bristol office when required.

  • Work for Leading Class Society
  • Collaborative working environment.
  • Opportunity for 15% matched Pension (UK only)
  • Hybrid working
  • 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays
  • A range of flexible benefits including company vehicle allowance.
  • The opportunity to work for an organization that has a strong sense of purpose, is values-driven, and helps colleagues to develop professionally and personally through our range of people development programmes

The role

  • Management of Classification services for a portfolio of client vessels, advising client on required scope of activity for compliance with Class rules and issuing quotations for fees associated with LR services being provided.
  • To act as Technical liaison for client, facilitating access to specialist technical advice from within LR when required and interpreting Naval client requirements for internal LR network.
  • Management of projects where additional Marine services are required by the client including compilation of quotations and ensuring that projects remain within agreed costs and contractual requirements.
  • Waterfront activity to complete technical survey activity on client assets. Full training and support will be given to develop the knowledge and skills required for this should the successful applicant not already possess them.

What You Bring

  • Degree qualified engineer, however, candidates with other qualifications and relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s officer will be considered.
  • Knowledge of class, statutory and industrial surveys with a working knowledge of international codes and standards applicable to the Marine or Naval sectors would be beneficial.

  • Ability to work in accordance with professional codes of conduct and the LR Code of Ethics in IMS01.
