Technical Field Manager, Ukraine (multiple roles available)

The total salary package for this position is £66,004 GBP (approx. $76,266 USD) per annum, including basic salary and all relevant allowances.

MAG is currently undertaking a review of salaries for internationally contracted employees, with changes effective from 1 January 2023. The outcome of the review is expected to be confirmed and communicated in late November.

About the Ukraine Programme:

Since the Russian invasion of 24th February, Ukraine has been subjected to heavy artillery bombardment, missiles, and air strikes, as well as the use of landmines and cluster munitions. The scale of the conflict and the use of high impact and indiscriminate weapons requires an urgent and extensive response. MAG is in the process of establishing a formal presence in Kyiv following an initial assessment visit in April, and is coordinating with the relevant national authorities, national and international partners, and other key stakeholders to address the needs generated by the presence of explosive ordnance contamination.

About the role:

Our Technical Field Managers are the core of our work. The aim of the post will be to implement all aspects of mine clearance and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operations and related tasks in accordance with standard operating procedures and as directed by the Technical Operations Manager (TOM). The post holder will provide training, evaluation and daily monitoring of all technical operations staff to ensure safe practices and build local capacity for humanitarian mine action activities. In addition, you will support the TOM in ensuring overall safe execution of all MAG technical activities within the country.

About you:

The successful candidate must have technical knowledge of mines/unexploded ordnance and mine clearance techniques, including new developments. You must be EOD qualified and have experience of working in mine clearance/EOD operations in developing or conflict affected countries that are contaminated by remnants of conflict, and of managing field operations. You will be experienced in leading, motivating and managing a diverse team of people, and in mentoring and coaching others. You will also have experience of conducting formal or informal training and the transfer of appropriate skills to others and the ability to contribute technical knowledge and clearance targets to proposals and reports. The ability to develop, review and comply with security and technical Standard Operating Procedures is essential.

The postholder will be innovative, proactive and committed to high quality standards and continually improving effectiveness and efficiency. You will be able to establish and develop effective working relationships at all levels internally and externally and to represent and promote MAG. In addition, you will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate activities and projects. Experience of working independently for extended periods of time in ‘stand-alone’ environments with minimal supervision is required.

Please note that as part of MAG’s commitment to safeguarding, this post is subject to background checks before an offer of employment is confirmed.

MAG is committed to the principles of diversity, equality and inclusion. If you think you would be suited to one of our roles we would welcome your application regardless of age, disability status, ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual orientation. We strive to provide an inclusive and supportive working environment where all employees feel respected and supported in fulfilling their potential.
