Chemonics seeks technical experts for an anticipated USAID-funded RDMA Partnerships for Asia Green Investment Activity based out of Bangkok, Thailand. The program will focus on employing nature-based solutions across Southeast Asia to achieve greater emissions reductions, climate resilience, biodiversity protection, inclusiveness, and benefit sharing. This Activity aims to advance systemic change in the agricultural, forestry and other land use (AFOLU) sector in the region to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at meaningful scale through inclusive and sustainable approaches, accelerating the region’s transition to net zero economies. In addition, the activity will improve biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and human well-being as additional outcomes. These positions are contingent upon award.

Technical experts will provide technical and management leadership and contributions to activities within their field of expertise to achieve project outcomes. These would be full-time positions based in the Bangkok, Thailand for the anticipated life of project.

Chemonics seeks candidates specialized in the following areas:

Director, Investment Mobilization: Experience developing and executive strategies to channel finance and investment to support conservation, climate mitigation, and adaptation objectives. Ability to lead the project climate finance partnership facilitation regionally by engaging with investors to identify opportunities to secure private, public and blended finance in support of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Will serve as the project’s most senior climate finance technical advisor, working closely with the project leadership team and USAID to design technically sound activities that maximize the project mobilization of climate finance resources.

Director, Environment Sustainability and Governance (ESG) and Conservation: Experienced in working with local institutions to understand and address the negative impacts of climate variability and change on communities, and the terrestrial and coastal ecosystems they depend on for their well-being. Will work with stakeholders, and partners to design and implement strategies to mitigate risk, foster resilience and build capacity to meet international ESG standards.

Director, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI): In cooperation with project technical and management teams, the Director, GESI will be responsible for guiding, planning, and ensuring an integrated and effective approach to implementation of all Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) training and capacity-building related activities, including workshops, on-the-job training, mentoring and coaching, events, and ensuring that all such activities are in line with our counterparts expectations, USAID regulations, and anticipate award agreement. Southeast Asia experience promoting equity and inclusion for underrepresented groups including women, youth and indigenous peoples within climate finance sector; climate change mitigation and adaptation; AFOLU supply chains; green investment; nature conservation; green financial instruments and/or green banking tools.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or advanced degree in a relevant field such as finance, economics, environmental studies, public policy or other relevant field preferred
  • 8-10 years of experience in the respective field of technical expertise in the Southeast Asia preferably Thailand, and working on large USAID or other donor funded projects
  • Proven track record collaborating with a diverse array of stakeholders and fostering collaborative learning and adaptive management, and social inclusion with women, youth, indigenous and other vulnerable populations
  • Demonstrated experience working with key climate finance institutions include but not limited to: Green Climate Fund, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Global Environment Facility, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills in English, both verbal and written
