The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Technical Coordinator (Nutrition Governance), LEAN to provide technical support on establishing nutrition governance system in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in collaboration with relevant district hill councils, government agencies, civil society organisations, traditional institutions of CHT, local government organisations (LGIs), private sectors and community support groups. This role will be based in any CHT district and will be offered on 1-year fixed term basis, subject to availability of funding.

This position is to be based in any of the CHT districts with frequent travel to the main 3 CHT districts (Khagrachari, Rangamati and Bandarban). This position is expected to commence in October 2022 and applicants will ideally be available to start immediately.

About GAIN

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

GAIN, in a consortium, has been implementing a project titled LEAN (Leadership to Ensure Adequate Nutrition) is an innovative, proven, and tested model to execute comprehensive set of interventions to improve nutrition governance and reduce malnutrition in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in Bangladesh. The project is designed to go beyond scattered small scale direct interventions and focus on sustainable, integrated, and effective nutrition governance geared towards nutrition sensitive interventions linking with nutrition specific services through a coordinated approach.

About the Role

Reporting to the Portfolio Lead, Drivers of Food Systems Transformation, the Technical Coordinator will be responsible for leading the process of implementing various activities for facilitating nutrition governance.

Key deliverables in this role will consist of project monitoring with a set of standard operating procedures to ensure coherent and consistent delivery in order to ensure that key objectives and goals are met.

Key Responsibilities include;

  • Providing technical support to implementing partners to ensure the effective delivery of project interventions in the selected CHT districts through developing concept, strategies and activity implementation guidelines
  • Providing orientation, coaching, mentoring and hands-on support to district technical coordinators and other key stakeholders
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with GoB stakeholders at national, regional, and sub-national level in order to establish nutrition governance process
  • Strengthening capacity and facilitating inter-departmental coordination in nutrition sensitive programming and service delivery of relevant government line departments, Local Government Institutions (LGIs), Hill District Councils (HDCs), CHT traditional institutions and relevant Service Providers (SPs)
  • Representing GAIN through advocacy and influencing related activities at national and regional levels on nutrition priorities and issues
  • Collaborating with the LEAN monitoring team, and Knowledge Leadership team on monitoring and evidence generation to support with further learning and funding opportunities

About You

The ideal candidate should have proven experience in developing and managing projects at a high level in a multi-cultural environment within government or international organizations. You should have in-depth understanding of the socio-economic, political, and cultural context of different ethnic communities of CHT. Candidate with experience in delivering an integrated nutrition project in food system is an asset.

The postholder should demonstrate strong leadership and effective communication skills, with the ability to develop strong networks and working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. Strong knowledge and professional experience of working directly with remote communities in CHT, Bangladesh with a nutrition focus is preferred. The ideal candidate will be an exceptional team player with the ability to work in a matrix structure and must be flexible and willing to travel in challenging environments.

You should have experience in analysis of data and quality reporting. Candidate with Master’s degree in Government & Political Science, International Relationship, Development Studies, Business Administration, or a suitable equivalent is preferred.

About our Offer

The starting salary on offer for this role is from BDT 1,555,584 – BDT 1,777,608 per annum, depending on experience. A higher increment maybe available for exceptional candidates.
