Water, Sanitation and Education Centre (WSEC) is part of Supply Division (SD) and one of procurement centres leading global contracting and procurement of WASH, Education and Project Support commodities for all UNICEF offices, and SD warehouse hubs focusing on optimizing emergency response and access to affordable and quality assured goods on timely manner.

The Project Support units is responsible for establishing global long-term procurement arrangements for power generation, transportation, core relief/security-related equipment supporting country and regional offices with best value for money solutions for UNICEF programmes and Emergency response.

The role will be providing pro-active independent coordination of technical support in the technical team, being responsible to provide guidance on appropriate products for Procurement Service clients, UNICEF Regional and Country Office requirements. Moreover, the role identifies commodity sources, evaluate technical appropriateness of commodities and maintain material data up to date.

Key Functions, Accountabilities And Related Duties/tasks

Technical and Supply Chain Service Delivery and Emergency Response

  • Drafts, prepares, and finalises product specifications on basis of existing documentation, directives, and customer requirements. Translates specifications with expert help if necessary. Communicates with country offices and suppliers to obtain all necessary clarifications.
  • Ensures that all product specifications are kept up to date in the material master database. Ensures the creations of technical cards/material Nos and amendments to materials/technical specifications within the range of commodities under their responsibility directly in the material master database and/or in close coordination with material master.
  • Maintains technical aspects of the qualified suppliers’ profile. Prepares lists of potential pre-qualified suppliers for requisitions and forwards it to the Commercial team for purchasing action.
  • Administers market research. Maintains database for product sources. Contacts and follows up new sources directly or through trade agencies or professional and technical organisations. Extracts, indexes or records information from catalogues, price lists, etc. and analyses against current purchasing data.
  • Assists in monitoring product performance, technical suitability appropriateness and durability on basis of information collected from country offices. Investigates deviations in partnership with Quality Assurance Centre and Customer Services and Field Support Centre (CSFS).
  • Assists in research and cataloguing of new products. Keeps abreast of programme requirements and prepares technical bulletins for publication.

Other Duties/responsibilities

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor including secretarial functions and attending to all routine work in his/her absence, including typing of travel reports and preparation of minutes of meetings.

The Following Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Completion of secondary education
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant administrative experience in procurement, contracting, supply chain management or a technical context
  • Language: Fluency in English
  • Valid work permit and residency in Denmark at the time of submitting the application. Note that the selected candidate is responsible for obtaining any required extension of their residency permit as an extension cannot be dependent on employment with UNICEF

  • Technical or university courses related to supply chain, business administration, contract/commercial law, or another relevant technical field.
  • Understanding of development and humanitarian work
  • Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or Danish.
