Technical Advisor (HMA)

Roving, in UK or globally, with significant worldwide travel

Starting package for this position is £72,228 per annum, (plus contributory pension if based in the UK)

This is an opportunity to play a key role in MAG’s global efforts to reduce the risk and impact of both unplanned explosions and the risk of weapons and munitions being diverted to the illicit arms trade. MAG has worked to improve the safe and secure storage and management of weapons and munitions for more than a decade, wth projects spanning 20 countries.

About the role:

The HMA Technical Advisor (TA) will support the Programmes Quality Team (PQT) to contribute towards the successful delivery of MAG’s Strategic Plan with the aim of ensuring high levels of safety, quality, innovation and continual improvement in MAG’s operational implementation, and promote the sharing of expertise, learning and development inside MAG and within the mine action sector.

Under the line management of the Senior Technical Advisor, the Technical Advisor shall undertake compliance assessments, focusing on operational delivery, safety and efficiency. The role holder will also be required to oversee demining accident investigations and reporting, deliver training and/or undertake mentoring while recommending and developing.

About you:

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of progressive responsibility in designing and managing HMA initiatives in multiple countries and operational contexts in senior management positions. They must have a minimum of IMAS EOD Level 3 as well as qualifications and experience in conducting demining accident investigations. The role holder will also have field experience in all mainstream operational HMA approaches and methodologies, including deployment of ADS and mechanical clearance assets as well as experience of developing and implementing QM systems, monitoring and assessment of activities. The ability to prioritise and manage a heavy workload under pressure is essential to this role.
