Emergency - Life Support for Civilian War Victims

Working hours and days: 8 per day, 5 days per week.

INTRODUCTION

EMERGENCY is an international non-governmental organization, established in 1994 to provide free, high-quality medical and surgical care to victims of war, landmines and poverty, alongside promoting a culture of peace, solidarity and respect for human rights. EMERGENCY has treated over 11 million patients since its inception. The organization is currently active in Afghanistan, Iraq, Italy, Sierra Leone, Sudan and Uganda. EMERGENCY operates based on the premise that access to high-quality healthcare is a fundamental human right. The Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery, in Khartoum, Soba Hilla, offers high quality and free of charge surgical care to children and adults suffering from acquired or congenital heart diseases.

Reporting to: Tech Build Responsible & Hospital Manager

Scope of the position:

The Tech Build is in charge of managing the Building Department collaborating with the Department Responsible being able to supervise the realization of maintenance plans and construction works

Tasks and responsibilities:

Tech Build’s tasks and responsibilities include – but are not limited to – the following areas:

MAINTENANCE IMPLEMENTATION AND SUPERVISION

  • Contribute in the preparation of the maintenance plans in the hospital and the compound, internal or external;
  • Organize the maintenance teams’ weekly duty, closely collaborating with the Foremen and report regularly to the Department Responsible the status of jobs;
  • Ensure the Foremen calculate correctly the material needed for the jobs assigned and collaborate with the Department Responsible in the purchasing process;
  • Collaborating in the management of the technical warehouses according to given guidelines

CONTRUCTIONS WORK

  • Carry out the building of new structures, adaptations and constructions according to the needs of the project, in collaboration with the Department Responsible, Hospital Manager and the Technical Division
  • Supervise external contractors and report regularly about their activity;
  • Propose designing solution about any technical issue arising and discuss them with the Department Responsible;
  • Guarantee availability for short missions in other EMERGENCY projects in case of need

ORGANIZATION AND TEAM MANAGEMENT

  • Supervise and Coordinate the two Foremen, tracking the achievement of the assigned goals and tasks;
  • Detect hiring needs and manage recruiting process together with the HR Department;
  • Manage the staff evaluation process, in coordination with the Department Responsible and HR Department, evaluating the performance of the staff and being able to promote corrective actions if needed;
  • Identify training needs and training actions to be performed to ensure staff continue improvement, collaborating with the Department Responsible and HR Department;
  • Monitor the respect of all safety procedures in the workplace and propose continuous improvement in this area;
  • Represent the Department in coordination meeting, being able to draft minutes, action plans and to follow up on projects management task
  • Organise periodical meetings, together with the Foreman, with the team to discuss about routines and any problems or needs they should have, promoting a cooperative, collaborative and respectful working relationship

Required Skills:

The role required at least 5 years of experience as Construction Engineer. Proficient level of English is required and proficient skills in the use of software for design, drawing and data collection and elaboration (AutoCAD, Excel).
