FHI 360/Philippines (www.fhi360.org) is looking for a TB Survivor Advocate under a short-term work engagement status for USAID’s TB Innovations and Health Systems Strengthening project in the Philippines.

Background:

The TB Innovations and Health Systems Strengthening (TB IHSS) Project is a 5-year USAID-funded project that aims to strengthen national and regional level implementation of the National TB Strategic Plan by providing state-of-the-art capacity building and technical expertise to scale-up TB and DR-TB prevention, detection, and treatment. The Project will identify and help implement proven approaches to improve prevention, increase case detection rates, decrease default rates, and increase treatment success and cure rates across the continuum of care.

Detailed Description of Tasks to be Performed:

FHI360 provides technical assistance to the Department of Health in finding, treating and caring for Filipinos affected by tuberculosis. Through the TB Innovations and Health Systems Strengthening (TB IHSS) Project, FHI360 is testing models across the continuum of TB care from detection to prevention. Demand generation is a key ingredient in the success of these models. In this light, TB IHSS requires the services of a Survivor-Advocate to guide and inform the advocacy track of the project’s communication strategy and speak about TB in the Philippines.

The TB Survivor-Advocate is expected to:

1. Submit monthly Treatment Buddy Reporting Form to identify major concerns in #TBFreePH Online Patient Support Group. Advocates must also indicate the specific concern: GeneXpert, TPT, Care TB App, Self-assessment, etc.

2. Capture or record photo/video files to be used in media engagement and advocacy activities of #TBFreePH, including but not limited to media training, media interviews and speaking engagements;

3. Together with other TB Survivor-Advocate, conduct patient-support group events and create communications and marketing materials promoting #TBFreePH during World TB Day and National Lung Month.

4. Participate in an advocacy event in a personal capacity as organizer or resource person, apart from those organized by #TBFreePH;

5. Participate in research activities of #TBFreePH, either as a respondent or liaison to other individuals affected by TB.

Required Skills:

1. Able to speak clearly with media and decision makers

2. Able to provide empathic counseling to other individuals affected by TB

3. Able to coordinate an advocacy event

Required Education/Job Experience:

· At least high school graduate

· Experience in development work is preferred

· Member of or has served in a peer support group or community organization
