Sustainability Manager

We are looking for someone passionate about sustainable food systems to lead our sustainability work at Carleton Dining. This role will lead the implementation of Aramark’s sustainability plan, Be Well. Do Well., within a higher education setting. Be Well. Do Well. is focused on working to reduce inequity, supporting our communities, and protecting our planet. At Carleton Dining, these areas of focus translate into priorities like local ingredient sourcing, waste reduction, and climate-friendly menus. As Sustainability Manager, you will help develop goals and strategies around these priorities, while also supporting the storytelling of our sustainability efforts to the campus community and beyond.

Job Responsibilities

• Develop, direct, and lead the implementation of Carleton Dining’s sustainability strategy across campus operations.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on sustainable dining trends to ensure Carleton Dining’s sustainability priorities are relevant, innovative, and impactful.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and work closely with other cross-functional teams, including Culinary, Marketing, Operations, Procurement, and Finance.
• Develop engagement programs and events that effectively communicate sustainable dining initiatives to the campus community and provide experiential learning opportunities to students where possible.
• Oversee the tracking, measurement, and reporting of Carleton Dining’s progress on sustainability goals and initiatives.
• Work in partnership with Marketing to identify proof-points, narrative content, and success stories, supporting the creation of content and campaigns.
• Lead employee training programs for operations-related programs, like waste diversion and sustainable purchasing.
• Guide on-campus and off-campus partnership engagement, prioritizing organizations that align with Carleton Dining’s vision for sustainable food systems.
• Identify opportunities for growth in local and sustainable procurement by becoming knowledgeable of the community’s farm and food producer landscape.
• Assists in overall dining sustainability leadership by integrating Carleton Dining Services’ goals, developing a strategy that is clear, concise, and meaningful in sustainability terms, implementing measurable programs, and working closely with
• Monitors ongoing campus activities and identifies threats and opportunities that may impact our brand’s green initiatives and reports to appropriate parties.
• Assists in developing systems and processes to effectively assess test programs as well as existing sustainable dining initiatives.
• Coordinates and assists in developing marketing materials and programs that effectively communicate and raise awareness of sustainable dining initiatives to students, staff and administration, and communicate sustainable dining successes.

Qualifications

• Pursuing/completed an undergraduate degree in Environmental studies, Business, or related field
• Knowledge of environmental and social impact issues related to food systems
• Experience in social media or marketing an asset
• Experience in foodservice operations an asset
• Ability to work independently and take initiative
• Detail oriented, self-initiated, flexible and eager to learn
• Genuine interest/passion in environmental sustainability
• Effective organization, and planning skills
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to effectively work, and communicate with a broad range of audiences, including staff and clients at various levels
• Strong time management, project management, and planning skills
• The selected candidate for this position will need to complete and successfully pass a Criminal Background Check
