Basic Purpose

Savings and Membership Department and Membership Administration (MA) branch are focused on providing support for all members and fellow employees by working together to provide informative, personable, and innovative guidance. We strive to provide superior member service as well as excellent quality service to each and every member because we feel every member is special and unique. Our goal is to be known as the most positive branch in the credit union due to our professionalism, trustworthiness, and most importantly, our service.

Our primary function is to provide world class member service. Membership provides assistance on processes related to the Field of Membership, eligibility requirements, specialty accounts, account shutdowns, joint ownership policies including the removal of joint owners, and administer data changes for member and joint owners on record. We maintain information and guidance about the Member Servicing and Tax Certification Systems (HX), in addition to opening paper applications and processing internet requests for current and prospective members.

Membership Specialists respond to inquiries from members via phone and electronic communication channels (eMessages, Online Comms) and process various membership applications via Enterprise Document Management (EDM) system (applications faxed into Membership). In addition, they provide guidance and share membership knowledge with internal and external members, and support Navy Federal’s seasonal and promotional campaign initiatives.

Interns will be trained to handle some of the aspects and responsibilities of a Membership Specialist. It will be essential for the team member in this position be a quick learner to understand how membership applications are processed through various channels and have a strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy and efficiency in effort to elevate the member experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures accurate and complete processing of membership related requests
  • Processes membership applications, requests to add joint owners, address change requests, and certification of SSN/TIN
  • Reviews application documentation for completeness, ensures applicant’s eligibility, ensures proper documentation is received and imaged, applies or disburses funds as required, changes personal information on accounts, and ensures the accounts are kept up to date with current authorized signers
  • Researches and presents specific membership related topics
  • Partners with Membership staff to ensure issues are resolved and the member’s needs are met
  • Escalates system issues to Supervisor
  • Participates in membership projects and initiatives
  • P rocesses membership incentives related to membership acquisition and retention initiatives; and provides operational support to other areas of membership
  • Maintains knowledge on all Navy Federal products, services, and marketing efforts
  • Receives guidance from higher level staff or Supervisor
  • Determines course of action from pre-established guidelines
  • Processes Membership forms and applications, follows due diligence steps, researches, and resolves inquiries and discrepancies, and escalates more complex issues to higher level staff
  • Provides administrative support to section activities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate or higher degree from an accredited college/university
  • Clerical experience that provided working knowledge of processes and procedures related to document processing
  • Ability to interpret and apply instructions and procedures
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with data and numbers
  • Familiarity with PCs and Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM EST

Salary Range: $15.00 – $30.10 hourly

Navy Federal Credit Union assesses market data to establish salary ranges that enable us to remain competitive. Within this range, pay will be determined based on factors such as individual qualifications, location, and market position.
