Basic Purpose

Navy Federal’s Fair Lending Analytics team is an enterprise-wide function that sits within the Compliance and Public Policy division and is responsible for identifying and analyzing gaps and weaknesses in business processes and policies and ensuring that the adequate corrective actions are taken to mitigate the risk. The team primarily conducts statistical analysis for identifying and evaluating potential fair lending risk across the credit lifecycle.

This role will aid the Fair Lending Analytics team in its analysis, modeling, and reporting efforts across various product areas. We are seeking a Summer Associate with great data and communication skills and an interest in consumer protection for this position. The candidate’s interests, knowledge, and academic background will determine the specific assignments.

The Summer Associate Graduate Intern Program is a 10+ week graduate internship program beginning in May 2023 and ending in August 2023. The intention of this program is to hire graduate interns who prove their aptitude into full time roles following graduation. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a graduate or PhD level degree from an accredited college or university with an anticipated graduation date of December 2023 or later.

Responsibilities

  • Support and assist Data Scientists and Modelers within the Fair Lending Analytics team in various analytical projects using internal and publicly sourced data
  • Conduct research on various topics and provide feedback and suggestions on projects and products
  • Assist the Fair Lending Analytics team in its data management and reporting efforts
  • Develop and present findings from analysis and research to management up to and including senior executives
  • Become integrated into and participate in the day-to-day strategy, analysis, and operations of the Fair Lending Analytics team
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or appropriate

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Data Analytics, or other related field
  • Experience with research, analysis, and data manipulation
  • Experience using data and analytic tools such as PowerBI, Databricks, SQL, SAS, SPSS Modeler, R, or Tableau
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Comfort working with large datasets and telling stories with data
  • Ability to work independently and think outside of the box
  • Basic skill building relationships through rapport, trust, diplomacy, and tact
  • Strong strategic, critical, and analytical thinking skills
  • Basic knowledge of financial services/payments a plus
  • Basic knowledge of federal financial regulations a plus

Navy Federal is now hybrid! Our standard enterprise requirement for a hybrid schedule is to report on-site 4-16 days each month. The number of days reporting on-site will ultimately be determined by the employee’s leadership and business unit needs. You will learn more throughout the hiring and on boarding process.

Salary Range: $41.00 – $46.00 hourly

Navy Federal Credit Union assesses market data to establish salary ranges that enable us to remain competitive. Within this range, pay will be determined based on factors such as individual qualifications, location, and market position.
