This Opportunity

Our Advisory Team is seeking a Summer 2023 Environmental Science and Planning Intern to work out of our Seattle, WA and/or Federal Way, WA office.

Your Impact

  • General planning support, including data collection, research, and documentation.
  • Assist in writing of technical reports and public-facing materials.
  • Contribute to the development of wetland delineation and assessment reports, biological assessments, mitigation/restoration site design and critical area assessment and permitting.
  • Support field work/research, alternatives screening analyses, environmental assessments, and community outreach for public clients.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in an accredited Environmental Science or related Undergraduate program.
  • Knowledge or experience with environmental planning, permitting, or scientific assessments.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this internship.
  • Prior internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework.
  • Experience with GPS data collection and GIS analysis.
  • Practical scientific expertise and knowledge of ecology, biology, and permitting for in-water projects (port/waterfront/marine terminals) and/or transportation projects (federal, state, and local infrastructure).
  • Knowledge or experience in the following: Endangered Species Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, Clean Water Act, National and Washington State Environmental Policy act compliance.
