Study Coordinator (80%-100%)

Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute

The study coordinator will be working full time at the Lao Tropical and Public Health Institute (Lao TPHI) office in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The study coordinator will coordinate all efforts related to the new multigenerational VITERBI birth cohort, including IRB approvals, developing and adapting study forms, identify study participants, scheduling of interviews, training and monitoring of interviewers, assuring data quality and supervision of all related protocols. The candidate will work closely with the larger research team including researchers both at the Swiss TPH and the Lao TPHI.

Experience and skill requirements

This is an ideal position for a person with a master’s degree who wishes to gain some hands-on experience doing quantitative field research in a low resource setting. To best fit our unit we expect the following qualifications:

  • Master’s in epidemiology, public health, economics or other quantitative science discipline
  • Previous working experience in low income settings
  • Demonstrated interest in research
  • Knowledge of STATA, R or other stats package
  • Good communication skills, strong spirit of team work and initiative, and ability to work with professionals in a multi-cultural context
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team on research programmes
  • Excellent command of English (speaking and writing) and willingness to learn Lao
  • Previous experience with survey data collection is a plus

Start of employment: January 1, 2023 (with some flexibility).

Appointments will be made for an initial period of one year, but can be renewed if there is mutual interest.
