Summary About the Position: Winchester, a city of 30,000, is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley 70 miles northwest of Washington, DC. This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Post-Secondary Students and Recent Graduates. Responsibilities As a Student Trainee you will study departmental publications, manuals, and similar references to become familiar with Corps of Engineers technical responsibilities in general or as they apply to a specific assignment. Provide assistance to higher level employees by extracting and compiling data for inclusion in reports, modifications, and specifications, and manipulating database software to obtain desired data. Perform pre-professional duties pertinent to the engineering field such as developing computer aided design drawings, review and analysis of contractor prepared shop drawings, and review and familiarization with construction specifications. Recognize and resolve errors that are readily apparent but require a limited knowledge of the subject matter. Process data according to well-defined methods and established formulas using mathematics, elementary algebra and geometry, and standard formulas. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: To be eligible for consideration you must meet the definition of Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) for Post-Secondary Students as defined below: Post-Secondary Student: a person who, (1) is currently enrolled in, and in good academic standing at, a full-time program at an institution of higher education; and (2) is making satisfactory progress towards receipt of a baccalaureate or graduate degree; and (3) has completed at least one year of the program. In order to qualify, you must meet the educational requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant education and experience.
