Position

Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) is actively seeking a Staff Psychologist with solid experience working in a university/college mental health setting, to join our Counseling Center team. This position will be based at the campus in St. Kitts with a start date to be determined.

RUSVM’s Office of Student Experience provides programs and support to help veterinary students achieve their goal of completing the veterinary program and becoming practice ready graduates. The Staff Psychologist reports directly to the Director of the Counseling Center and provides support in the delivery of a broad range of psychological services to the RUSVM campus community. The Counseling Center provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and psychoeducational outreach programming contributing to the RUSVM Care model. The Staff Psychologist is an essential member of an integrated Student Experience team (comprising cross functional operational and student life departments) and will work closely with other members of the Counseling Center and student experience specialists in the delivery of an exceptional student experience.

Responsibilities

Clinical Services (85%)

  • Provide individual, group, and emergency counseling services to RUSVM students.
  • Direct clinical services will account for approximately 65% of total hours. Develop and deliver a variety of outreach programming activities on campus.
  • Provide clinical oversight of the Counseling Center in the absence of the Director of the Counseling Center.
  • Provide consultation to faculty and staff, as directed.
  • Engage in active case management, as needed.
  • Develop psychoeducational materials.
  • Ability to effectively manage clients and balance multiple priorities. Work with the team to develop and improve the Counseling Center’s technology and communication, as directed.
  • Knowledge of and ability to protect and maintain the client’s right to privacy and confidentiality, including ability to comply with all legal regulations and professional standards in this area.
  • Adhere to the ethical and legal standards of professional practice and behavior relevant to the field of training and licensure.

Other (15%)

  • Take initiative to identify campus needs and create interventions to address such needs.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues and campus community.
  • Actively engage in learning and utilizing evidence-based interventions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Position may require occasional evening, weekend, or early morning hours.
  • Experience with Titanium Software is preferred.
  • Completes other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Requires a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA accredited program with at least five years of professional, clinical experience including: assessment, psychotherapy, crisis management and mental health service delivery systems.
  • Must be independently licensed without restriction.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience with providing short-term counseling in a university/college mental health setting.
  • Excellent computer and written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work well as a part of a team orientated Counseling Center.
  • Active participation in counseling related professional associations.
  • Previous experience in a university counseling center.
  • Strong clinical skills and previous experience in providing short-term, solution-focused psychotherapy.
  • Multicultural competence and interest/expertise in outreach and preventative programming required.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, guidelines, and best practices relevant to a university health and counseling center.
  • Knowledge of and ability to protect and maintain the client’s right to privacy and confidentiality, including ability to comply with all legal regulations and professional standards in this area.
  • Effective in following required processes, including following documentation requirements.
  • Evidence of being self-motivated and self-directed. Demonstrated commitment to social justice and inclusivity in a multicultural learning environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with diverse student populations, including international students.
  • Experience giving presentations and facilitating discussions.
  • Interest and experience in treating trauma and sexual violence.
