The Structural Engineer Contractor will assist our Relief teams in the field to ensure our operations are safe environments for the communities we are assisting and document best practices and learnings. We are looking for several individuals to immediately fill this contractor role in multiple areas in quake-affected zones.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess operational sites and estimate risk and mitigation needs.
  • Conduct regular field visits, collect data, and deliver accurate and timely reporting.
  • Provide response and recovery related training to the teams.
  • Read, interpret, and utilize technical drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • When necessary, support related Engineering projects or tasks while in the field.
  • Build and maintain rapport with vendors, partners, the community, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure all people who come into contact with WCK are as safe as possible.
  • Demonstrate WCK values while in the field.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering specialty
  • Construction experience
  • Four years of professional experience in relief and recovery operations
  • Experience with national recovery and response programs such as FEMA or equivalent
  • Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience performing Structural Damage Evaluations and damage site inspections

Special Position/Work Requirements:

  • While on site, conditions may be austere including prolonged exposure to excessive heat and cold, prolonged sun exposure and no electricity, heat or air conditioning. Other potential risks include air quality issues, standing water, mosquitos, snakes, debris, and other potential exposures.
  • This work will require extensive walking and standing for long periods of time; working in small spaces, tunnels and ditches; climbing ladders or stairs; walking/working on uneven surfaces; lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • This role requires frequent and extended international travel to activations, often for weeks.
