The salary package for this position is £70,028 GBP per annum (approx. $88,699 USD), including all allowances.

About the role:

The Standards and Training Manager (STM) will manage and develop technical training and standards across the programme in all matters relating to field operations, equipment and training, and provide logistical and administrative support to the Technical Operations Manager (TOM) and Standards and Training Team. This support will include compilation of training management practices and training plans to assist in maintenance of operational effectiveness through coordination, planning and assessment management. Roles are in remote areas, working in challenging contexts away from home comforts, but the life-saving impact the work has on local communities is very real, and rewarding. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in MAG’s life-saving work on a day-to-day basis.

About you:

You must be EOD qualified and have experience of working in mine clearance/EOD operations in developing or conflict affected countries that are contaminated by remnants of conflict, and of managing field clearance operations and Land Release. You will also have experience of integration of mechanical assets into clearance. You will be experienced in leading, motivating and managing a diverse team of people, and in mentoring and coaching others. You will also have experience of designing, developing, and delivering formal or informal training, and the transfer of appropriate skills.

The postholder will be innovative, proactive and committed to high quality standards and continually improving effectiveness and efficiency. The ability to develop, review and comply with security and technical Standard Operating Procedures is essential to the role. You will be able to establish and develop effective working relationships at all levels internally and externally and to represent and promote MAG. In addition, you will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organisation skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate activities and projects. Experience of working independently for extended periods of time in ‘stand-alone’ environments with minimal supervision is required.

About the Sri Lanka Programme:

MAG’s Sri Lanka programme addresses the problems faced by mine-affected communities by providing efficient, effective and safe clearance of land. The Sri Lankan civil war ended in 2009, but landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERW) continue to threaten communities in northern and eastern districts. MAG uses a mixture of manual and mechanical teams to maximise the efficiency of the land release process in country. By making land safe and returning it to the affected communities, MAG is helping people in Sri Lanka to rebuild their lives, livelihoods and futures following the civil war. MAG Sri Lanka extended its programme activities by adding Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) activities to the programme in 2019.
