Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • Experience testing and launching mobile software products on multiple platforms, and experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience working in any 3D game engine (e.g., Unreal, Unity, Godot) and portfolio of shipped products.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in 3D modeling applications (e.g., Maya, C4D, Blender).
  • Experience in multiplayer game development, virtual reality, high performance programming, and/or game debugging.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, and/or cross-business projects.

About The Job

Virtual entities and Avatars are increasingly major modes of communication, expression, and interaction with/via computers. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a 3D Game Developer and part of a greenfield team to define a vanguard of character-based computing. While this role isn’t specifically about building games, it leans into a bevy of skills, techniques, and technologies towards interactions that are game-like and playful. You’ll be part of a team bringing life to virtual entities represented in 3D, using game engines like Unity, Unreal or others.

In this role, you will connect these game engines to OS level APIs (iOS and Android) and art pipelines produced in 3D Design programs. Our team is at the intersection of technology and the arts, and you have the work that shows creative expressions via code.

Responsibilities

  • Design, guide, and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
  • Set technical direction and deliver solutions for a cross-platform (e.g., Android and iOS) app and rendering framework.
  • Give UX and design the capabilities to create powerful visualizations and animations of virtual entities.
  • Work with cross-functional UX, Engineering, Research teams.
  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards.
