Position Description

EnCompass LLC seeks an Organizational Development Specialist II. TheOD Specialist II will work closely with the Senior Organizational Development Specialist and Organizational Effectiveness Results Lead to provide technical expertise on the Designing Effective Evidence-based Engagement and Learning for Organizational Performance (DEVELOP) project. This full-time role with the DEVELOP project will serve as an integral part of an appreciative, collaborative team to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate organizational development activities for USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Development and Innovation (DDI) and USAID Missions worldwide. DEVELOP aims to strengthen the capacity of the Center for Education and other operating units in USAID to lead in their respective sectors for sustainable and inclusive organization change.

This role will take a human and equity-centered approach to organizational development and effectiveness work, including support to professional development and capacity strengthening activities as required.

This is a full-time position, based in the Washington, DC metro area. Due to COVID-19, the responsibilities of the position may be fulfilled remotely or as a hybrid. Candidate may be expected to travel to Missions or other locations as needed. Must be legally authorized to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions include:

  • Contribute expertise and innovative methodologies and approaches to the scoping and delivery of organizational development interventions that improve processes, systems, structure and culture
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of strategic planning processes, and aligned organizational design/structures, leadership strengthening, nurturing culture and values, and other change areas based on prioritized needs
  • Contribute to the design, delivery and analysis of OD assessments and training evaluations, using mixed methods approaches to gather and assess feedback from internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to the management of OD activities, and conduct project and process management, including preparing materials, synthesizing results, writing reports, managing knowledge and proactively communicating with project stakeholders
  • Work with project operations staff to ensure proper planning for producing virtual events and workshops
  • Bring evidence-based practices to support the design of highly impactful workshops, retreats, all-hands, learning events and other forms of purpose-driven convenings
  • Facilitate face-to-face workshops, retreats, events and other learning sessions through development of course content and curriculum design for virtual learning programs as needed and appropriate
  • Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with all project stakeholders, including subject matter experts and short-term technical assistance
  • Capture and document scalable OD practices and processes for internal OD knowledge management
  • Engage fully as a member of the EnCompass staff team, including participating in staff meetings and other EnCompass activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree and 10 years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and 8 years’ relevant experience, or a Master’s degree and 6 years’ relevant experience
  • Degree in Training, Evaluation, Adult Education, Instructional Design, International Communication, International Development, Organizational Development, or a related field.

Experience and Skills

  • Experienced in leading-edge thinking, methodologies, and approaches in organizational development and change management
  • Knowledge of Appreciative Inquiry and ability to work in a strengths-based environment
  • Knowledge of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility and willingness to apply this lens to all designs and deliveries
  • Knowledge of how to bring a gender equality and social inclusion lens to all designs and deliveries
  • Strong planning, organization, critical and strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in data collection, survey administration, report writing in service of change management
  • Adept at identifying and framing problems, setting priorities, and making critical assessments
  • Exceptional presentation, communication (verbal and written), and facilitation skills
  • Ability to confidently engage with staff and clients to define needs and expectations, collaborate on projects, and communicate results
  • Knowledge of the principles of learning including adult learning, learning styles, participatory methods, instructional design
  • Experience in the field of international development, working in cross-cultural environments
  • Fluent in the Microsoft Office suite (particularly generating graphics in Excel and Word) and Survey Monkey or other survey development tool as well; experience using Adobe Connect, WebEx, and/or Zoom a plus
  • Fluency in language(s) other than English an advantage
