About The Role

This analyst creates thought leading research for Software Engineering Leaders around the world. S/he publishes original research, speaks with clients directly, presents at global events and delivers client engagements virtually or in person. This position requires you to be a life-long learner with the versatility to quickly adjust to rapidly changing trends around software engineering.

It is critical to have deep experience leading software engineers to deliver cutting-edge software, a growth mindset, and an insatiable curiosity for the impact that digital products have on the world. Knowledge and experience leading product design and development teams (in-house and/or outsourced) and as a thought leader in software engineering practices across an end-to-end value stream is critical. Our Software Engineering Leader and IT leader clients need actionable advice on how to shift their teams’ culture, practices and technology to support modern Cloud Native development of digital products and platforms that drive their business success.

As a Gartner analyst, you will deliver thought-leading research that equips Software Engineering Leaders to position their teams for maximum success. You will meet with clients every day: on the phone, in video-conference meetings, from the stage at a Gartner event, or face-to-face during an on-site engagement. In every client interaction, analysts help clients solve difficult (organizational and technical) challenges that lead to better business performance.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct research and analysis to uncover digital product development best practices.
  • Deliver high-quality actionable advice through a variety of media.
  • Write provocative and pragmatic research that clear and actionable.
  • Create and delivery presentations for webinars, onsite engagements and Gartner conferences.
  • Track vendors, market trends and emerging practices to remain ahead of the curve within these areas, and adjacent spaces (e.g., digital transformation, culture change, and quality practices).
  • Promote Gartner’s industry leadership reputation by handling press inquiries
  • Deliver outstanding sales support in order to retain and grow the Gartner business
  • Provide high quality and timely research content peer review
  • Build credibility as an industry expert to represent Gartner research, methodology and strategy
  • Actively participate in innovation, ideation, and research discussions and collaborate effectively with peers in the research community
  • Identify research process improvements or develop new processes that help the team and Research & Advisory provide excellent service delivery
  • Be a mentor and a coach by supporting more junior team members

Who You Are

  • You came from a technical background and may have been a hands-on practitioner in the past but as your career progressed you may have transitioned more into the management side, where you started leading teams or teams of teams.
  • You understand the bigger picture and the full SDLC where considerations are made in security, architecture, infrastructure. reusability and technical debt.
  • You are proficient in analyzing and synthesizing data; can effectively apply patterns and frameworks while drawing and defending conclusions to client challenges
  • You enjoy learning and being challenged intellectually on new topic areas or adjustments to previously held beliefs.
  • You are a strong communicator who can explain complex concepts concisely and simply
  • You are a subject matter expert who is comfortable presenting at large and small-scale speaking engagements
  • You can demonstrate executive presence and can immediately establish credibility with executives and additional stakeholders

What You Will Need

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience (combined) across software engineering management, UX design, product management, and/or product marketing roles. Breadth is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent experience, preferably Computer Science, or a related field; a graduate degree is a plus.
  • Subject matter expertise, with demonstrated knowledge of software trends, and emerging best practices for “full stack” product design and development, ideally including in “cloud-native” environments including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality deliverables
  • Demonstrate excellence in research and writing ability
  • Strong written and verbal proficiency, analytical and presentation skills; ability to engage clients and respond effectively to questions
  • Ability to represent Gartner’s research methodology and strategies effectively at all levels
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% (where applicable)
