JOB BRIEF (PURPOSE)

The Specialty Loan Officer (SLO) will source home lending business externally, bringing new relationships to KeyBank and Key Private Bank with a focus on the affluent and high net worth segment. The SLO may be responsible for supporting the Private Bank, Business Bank and/or Commercial Bank teams, as assigned. The SLO assists clients with the origination of residential mortgage loans, including providing analysis and advice to affluent and High Net Worth clients and/or prospects on home lending solutions to meet their needs and financial objectives. An additional focus of this role may include specializing in the healthcare home lending segment.

  • The SLO will be expected to spend their time effectively prospecting for home lending business to build and develop referral relationships and new originations. This can include developing internal referral relationships as well as developing external centers of influence to refer home lending opportunity and banking and wealth management opportunity.
  • The SLO is the primary point of contact for all aspects of the mortgage process; both internal and external and is expected to collaborate with fulfillment to meet the needs of our customers from the point of registration to closing.
  • The SLO is expected to meet or exceed established sales goals while maintaining high standards of client satisfaction and loan quality.
  • This position is expected to manage client referrals and refer full banking and wealth management opportunities to the respective banking partner.
  • The SLO should maintain proficiency on sales/originator systems and develop and maintain efficient work flows.

Essential Job Functions

  • The role of the SLO is to originate and process 1-4 family residential real estate mortgage transactions in accordance with Home Lending process and product guidelines.
  • The SLO is responsible for gathering documents at the time of registering a loan and is expected to remain, the primary point of contact for the client during the duration of the loan process. This person is to maintain high standards of client satisfaction and quality, ensure sales/originator systems and work flows are efficiently controlled.
  • The SLO is responsible for knowing all Federal Regulations and bank policies/procedures. The SLO will participate in Private Bank, Business Bank and Commercial Bank meetings as needed. The SLO will also be responsible for pipeline management of leads and applications for the respective business partner, keep each partner apprised of the client status.
  • The SLO is to keep informed of trends and developments in the real estate market and mortgage industry. In addition, the SLO is to develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of products and services as well as knowledge of competitors and competitive products while serving as the subject matter expert within the market.

Required Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of experience as a loan officer in first mortgage production
  • Experience working with high net worth and/or affluent clients
  • Proven ability to effectively manage high net worth client relationships
  • Bachelor’s degree in business related field or equivalent experience.
  • Possesses advanced technical knowledge and understanding of business tax returns, trusts, LLCs, and other asset protection tools used by high net worth clients
  • High degree of knowledge in the medical home lending product space
  • A working knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, TIL regulations, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, RESPA regulations, local and state real estate and finance laws
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills
  • Proficient in sales and service skills; including tele-consulting, prospecting, networking and COI relationship management.
  • Strong financial acumen

Employees hired or transferring into this position will need to meet the qualification requirements, in Company’s sole discretion, under Reg. Z, prior to acting as a loan originator in a consumer credit transaction secured by a dwelling. Qualification requirements include but are not limited to an assessment of overall financial responsibility, character, and general fitness through review of a criminal background check, credit report, and information about any administrative, civil, or criminal findings by any government jurisdiction.
