What can you expect in this role?

As a Sous Chef, you’ll be working as part of our friendly kitchen brigade, using your experience and knowledge of being a chef, to be able to work with our team of chefs and to lead the kitchen operation in the absence of the head chef. You need to be able to plan, produce and deliver a high standard of food and presentation in a busy operation.

This role will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your real passion for food and allow you to invent, produce and present quality dishes in accordance with our hotel offer. You’ll also be providing guidance to the Chef de Partie, controlling stock and minimising wastage.

As Ambleside offers a variety of dining and food options to our guests, you’ll need to be flexible to work in different areas, if required, and adhering to all health and safety requirements at all times.

The role will offer you opportunities to display your talent, people management skills and knowledge of running a successful kitchen through supervising the department when required. It will also provide you with development opportunities and the progression routes.

What do you need?

Hospitality is an ever changing environment with a real focus on great customer service and providing an experience for our guests. This is achieved through each Partner being motivated, creative and great teamwork.

  • Commercial awareness
  • Skilled influencer/ motivator/ coach
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Understanding of HACCP
  • Ability to interpret and enforce food safety Policy and health and safety regulations
  • Food Safety level 3
  • Relevant professional chef qualifications: City & Guilds diplomas in professional cookery, BTEC HNC in professional cookery or equivalent
  • Experience working in a professional kitchen
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

What else could you bring?

  • Competent in IT systems and able to use standard software
