Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Solutions Architect will interact with UNICC’s client organizations to help analyzing business needs, developing fit-for-purpose solutions, and facilitating the implementation of these solutions across various digital technology domains, specifically focused on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and distributed ledgers.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objective of the Centre is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief Technology Officer within the Solution Architecture Section (DDS), within the Digital Delivery Division (DD), and in close collaboration with the Solution Architecture team. The incumbent could be requested to do any other tasks of similar level in related fields. The incumbent will more specifically:

  • Under the guidance of the Chief, DDS, work with different external (client) and internal (technical teams) stakeholders to help expanding business needs into requirements and explore best possible and cost-effective technology solutions
  • Engage in the development and implementation of the required solutions, by working closely with different technical teams and developers, during the different project phases
  • Prepare artefacts, analysis reports and solution architecture designs that comply with business prerequisites
  • Provide first level guidance on architectural practices to clients as well as internal teams
  • Contribute to build prototypes for emerging technology, testing and knowledge transfer to technology teams
  • Provide training and transferring knowledge to clients
  • Provide technical support to colleagues within UNICC
  • Keep abreast of latest technology trends to feed UNICC technological strategies and to deliver innovative solutions in a swiftly changing ecosystem
  • Lead the frontend engineering team and manage its resources, assigning tasks according to the needs
  • Support the mobile engineering team when necessary
  • Be in charge of project implementations
  • Provide other ad hoc support either within the team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full-time basis upon request from the senior management

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • Five (5) years or more of progressing experience in developing integrated solutions within a broad technical context, in multi-cultural and global international environment
  • Proven experience of the following items:
    • Native mobile development, specifically iOS and Android environment, and/or Hybrid mobile development on React Native
    • On-device implementation of mobile-first artificial intelligence solutions
    • Building mobile solutions with cloud native technologies – specifically with AWS and Firebase services; as well as using some of the technologies with on-prem hybrid cloud
    • Technical design and solutions implementation on distributed ledger technologies (blockchain), specifically with mobile-native digital wallets
  • Proven understanding of the following items:
    • Hyperledger Aries Identity Solutions.
    • Different software design principles and patterns for mobile applications like SOLID or DRY
    • DevOps processes and technologies for mobile CI/CD, such as Fastlane, Bitbucket Pipelines, Jenkins, Appium
    • Familiarity with anyone of toolsets such as Atlassian stack, Github or Gitlab
    • Creating MVPs and outcome-based product builds
  • Knowledge of different project management practices such as Agile, waterfall etc.
  • Knowledge of data and information security
  • Customer-centric engineering approach with an outside perspective
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Welcomes new technologies and proposes innovative solutions that propel business value
  • Training experience in a technical environment

Desirable:

  • Past experience working for an IT system integrator and/or service provider serving external clients
  • Experience of working practices within non-profit International Organizations
  • Understanding of UN eco-systems and UNICC’s product and services
  • Experience in managing a team.
  • Experience in native mobile programming (any language such as Objective C, C, C++, Java, Swift, Kotlin)
  • Experience in hybrid mobile programming (any language such as Javascript or Typescript)
  • Understanding and experience of Mobile-technology stacks
  • Understanding of IT Service delivery processes
  • Good understanding of the UN system, its organizations, and their inter-relationships

Education*:

Essential:

  • First university degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Spanish: Beginner knowledge is desirable

Other Information

Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):

  • Valencia (Spain), including post adjustment (30,8% on July 2023): US$ 82,001.

UNICC also offers generous leave and absence allowances, flexible working hours, overtime compensation, teleworking, access to training, and depending on eligibility other benefits such as relocation grant, dependency allowance, language allowance, or education grant.
