Software Engineer – Production

As a systems engineer, you will help evolve and operate the core infrastructure which drives Tubular. We believe platform operations is a job for software, built by software engineers like yourself. Powered by AWS, our large-scale data processing platform is designed and implemented with automation in mind, leveraging modern infrastructure as code (IaC) principles and employing a sophisticated observability stack to ensure that our services are running smoothly.

In this job you will:

• Design and implement systems using the latest in petabyte-scale big data, high performance web applications, containerization (Kubernetes), and CI/CD technologies
• Develop innovative tools to improve developer efficiency across the entire organization
• Provide DevOps guidance to the rest of the Engineering team
• Work closely with a small team of talented individuals working on the infrastructure that supports billions of videos and petabytes of data

Your Responsibilities will include:

• Programming in Python
• Develop, own and operate self-healing mission-critical infrastructure using AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Consul, Vault, Spark, ElasticSearch
• Linux systems engineering and integration
• Mentor junior engineers
• Participate in the platform on-call rotation (United States shift)

Ideal candidates will have:

• 3+ years of experience working with Unix/Linux systems
• 2+ years of operations experience in a high-availability Linux environment
• 2+ years of experience working with Docker and/or Kubernetes
• Strong Python language skills
• Expertise with AWS (EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, etc.)
• Expertise working with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Datadog, Grafana, Logstash, Sensu, Nagios, and similar technologies)
• Experience with ElasticSearch operations
• A passion for automated, scalable, and repeatable infrastructure (SaltStack, Terraform, etc.)
• The ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and respond to emergent issues accordingly
• A strong sense of ownership over system uptime and performance
• Knowledgeable about SAAS security concerns
• Good interpersonal communication skills
