About The Role

The Software & Clinical Coding Trainer position is an exciting opportunity for a motivated medical coder to create a training program and ad hoc training for internal resources, onshore and offshore medical coders and CDI specialists, and clients.

Who You Are & What You Will Own

  • Review, improve and maintain Apixio’s medical coder training program, based on adult learning principles and instructional design best practices
    • Initial training – Maintain new coder training program and materials for all Apixio medical coders and CDI specialists
    • Ongoing training -Develop a continuing education program for Apixio medical coders, that may include project specific instructions, new feature training, or coding clinic updates.s.
    • Ad hoc Training – Work with the Apixio clinical coding team to identify needs for ad hoc training and create training materials and programs to target individuals and groups
  • Partner with Apixio’s coding support team to identify common issues that may be addressed by ad hoc or ongoing training and create or refine training to address them.
  • Facilitate training via multiple delivery modes including instructor-led training, e-learning, classroom and blended solutions as necessary using a variety of adult learning and instructional design techniques.
    • Leverage Apixio’s learning management system platform to deliver training, as needed.
    • Create a learning verification system to ensure that individuals providing services to Apixio can demonstrate their learnings
  • Partner with Apixio’s product and customer operations teams to create training programs and materials for end users of Apixio’s software solutions, including Apixio, vendor and client medical coders and CDI specialists
    • Work with Apixio’s product team to create training programs and materials for new and existing products and features
    • Train Apixio teams on how to deliver end user trainings
    • Revise and rewrite materials as needed based on internal and external feedback
  • Partner with peers in other departments to achieve company goals, develop a mutual understanding of roles, and foster a positive work environment
  • Keep up to date with current coding policies for ICD-10, Medicare Advantage, HHS (ACA), CDI and other markets

What Knowledge, Skills & Abilities you bring to the table:

  • Minimum Associates degree, preferably in a healthcare related field
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in a healthcare related field
  • Minimum 8 years of coding experience that includes experience in one or more of the following areas: Medicare Advantage Risk Adjustment, CDI, Medicaid, Commercial RA and HEDIS experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in training with a focus on adult learning
  • Experience in creating programs with a Learning Management System
  • One or more of the following current certifications:
    • Healthcare Administration
      • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
      • Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) by the Health Information and Management System Society (HIMSS)
    • Medical Coding
      • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
      • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
      • Certified Risk Adjustment Coder by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
    • Clinical Documentation
      • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) by The Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists (ACDIS)
      • Certified Documentation Integrity Practitioner (CDIP) by American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Ability to manage several projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to a broad range of customer end-users
  • Familiarity with HIPAA patient privacy requirements
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and advanced problem solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and G-Suite applications. Excel skills are a must.

The salary range below is for Base Salary. Total compensation also includes benefits and variable compensation. Compensation will be determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, skill set, years of experience, and the employee’s geographic location.

Base Compensation

$60,000—$90,000 USD
